Xintuo Ecotourism arranged a farm-stay for us at Lashihai, just outside Lijiang. This was the highlight of our Yunnan trip. Beautiful location and a unique insight into life in rural china. We did everything from picking vegetables from the garden for dinner to hanging out with the family's 3 year boy, cycling through the surroudning countryside to a Buddhist monastery, watching farmers tend to their animals and sleeping in a traditional courtyard house. Lily at Xintuo is a Lijiang/Lashihai local and has good insight about how to see the area and beyond. We ended up organising an 8 day tour of Yunnan through lilly and were very glad that we did. Everything was well organised and Lily was very flexible.MoreShow less
Lily planned the whole trip we had in Lijiang and she was very detailed in what we can do and what we can't especially with a young child. I love how she recommended we take a less touristy itinerary by going up to Halfway Guesthouse and hike for 3.5hrs Round-trip to get to the waterfalls. Beautiful experience with our guide, Mona and our driver. They made sure our little girl was safe all the time, knowing the trail can get a bit steep and uneven.
We also had dinner with a very generous Naxi family to understand and see how locals live. Despite the language barrier, we had a great evening outdoors eating vegetables and cracking walnuts.
Our day in JDSM was also great - Mona explained to us a lot about the place. She managed to keep us on schedule although at times I would recommend that she improves on how to forecast time needed in one place. When we went up Yak Meadow - 30mins was not enough to explore the Tibetan temple and do a round trip walk along the track. Same goes for Blue Moon Valley, I don't mind walking a lot and prefer that my guide does not hurry us up. I think back of her mind, she was worried we would miss the Baisha Murals (which we did) but would never trade a good conversation on how and why things are with a hurried itinerary.
Mona also recommended good places to buy rose pastries and puhr tea - a totally new experience for us when we went tea tasting. She is highly recommended.
Overall, very good tour operator. Lily the owner is very attentive. When we come back to Yunnan to visit Shangrila, we will definitely be in touch again.
We highly recommend Xintuo Ecotours for anyone visiting the Lijiang area and wanting an authentic local experience. They provided the highlights of our trip. Lily helped my wife and I and my parents arrange numerous tours ranging from half-day excursions to a 3-night trek. Our Mandarin-speaking guide Liu Zhen Wei was knowledgeable, friendly, and proud of his Yi heritage. His family welcomed us into their home and let us participate in the daily activities on their farm. My parents, who don’t speak Mandarin, were very satisfied with all of the English speaking guides on their tours.
Thanks a lot for your all support! We are pretty happy to hear that you all were enjoyed the trip! We all will try our best to make better for the future groups too.
After looking long and hard we selected Xintuo Ecotours after reading many positive reviews. We were certainly not dissappointed and had a wonderful trip. Our guide Lily was very professional but also very warm and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble and we certainly became good friends along the way.Mr Lee Dong our friendly driver was always careful and considerate and a lot of fun. Despite not speaking English we managed well with hand signals and much laughter. We were thrilled that he took us to visit his parents for lunch so we could also meet his children. These are the special moments that we loved on the trip. Our experience in staying in homestays was fantastic. We were invited to attend a Mouso wedding of the nephew of our homestay hosts which would never of happened if we were staying in hotels. We were even dressed in traditional Mouso clothing...a big thrill for us. Thankyou to Lily for inviting us to stay in her parents homestay and to also go with her father mushrooming in the mountains. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We managed to avoid the touristy areas and meet so many wonderful friendly people along the way. We would love to return in May to see the rhododendron and azalea forests in flower. Jan and Rod
Dear Jan and Rod,

Using Ecotourism was a fantastic idea. It was recommended to us by a friend. My family arrived in Lijiang and stayed at a lovely inn run by Lily - great accommodation and hospitality. The van and tour guide arrived on time and we had a lovely ride to a Naxi village, toured the village and had lunch at a local restaurant before heading to Tiger Leaping Gorge. The Gorge was spectacular and our guide stayed with us to answer questions as they came up. We had a long, but fantastic day. I wish we had had time to do some of their other tours. Overall great time and highly recommend this company.
Thanks a lot again for your support! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed our service also stay with our smaill The HideAway Inn in Lijiang!
I echo all of the positive comments people have written about Lijiang Xintuo Ecotourism and especially about my guide Lily. I was giving a workshop in southern China and decided to travel to northwest Yunnan Province on short notice. At the last minute a Chinese-speaking colleague decided not to accompany me so it was a scramble to find a qualified, English-speaking guide. Luckily, the hotel in Lijiang recommended Lily. Thanks to her professionalism, local knowledge, and ability to read people and situations, it was one of the best trips I’ve taken.
My three previous solo trips in China had been with a more mainstream travel agency that basically included well-known locations swamped with tourists taking Instagram pictures. These ten days were completely different – numerous small villages, tea with local ladies who showed me their vegetable gardens, leisurely walks around beautiful mountain lakes, Buddhist temples, and many opportunities to interact with local people. Even without speaking the language(s) of the places I visited, I felt Lily helped me experience that area of Yunnan Province in a very natural, non-orchestrated fashion.
One of the highlights of the trip was staying in a traditional hotel in Shaxi – ShaXi Aoding Courtyard. It offered beautiful, peaceful spaces in a central location, and a very friendly, experienced inn keeper who spoke excellent English. Another one of Lily’s “finds”. I highly recommend visiting this beautiful part of the world with Lily and her agency.
I contacted them to arrange a one-day hike of tiger leaping gorge. It was a fantastic idea. They arranged the transportation in a clean and comfortable car . Then we hiked down middle gorge all the way down and the views were incredible. After, we had a Tibetan-style lunch at a local restaurant. Our guide was friendly and easy going. Overall we had an awesome time.
Happy to hear that you were enjoyed the trip! Thanks a lot for your support again!
I had a vague idea of where to I wanted to visit along the old tea horse road, and contacted Lily at LIjiang Ecotourism. Lily designed a fabulous tour full of delightful surprises and thorough itinerary. We traveled through historic cultural centers, and authentic rural villages. We took a few scenic hikes as well as leisure time to wander through old village markets. A few highlights include hiking along tiger leaping gorge and snow mountains, exploring Nudeng salt village, the temples of Shangri-La as well as Taoist mountain temples near Wenshan town. This region of Yunan is fascinating, many of China’s minorities live in this area from centruries ago and were responsible for the old tea and salt trade in the region, which reached to many far flung regions of the world. Also the natural environment is also beautiful and stunning, green mountains, pasture lands, and snow capped peaks. I highly recommend designing a tour with Lily you will leave feeling informed and inspired.
Great service, arranging private transfers between Shangri-La, Tiger Leaping Gorge and Lijiang to enable us to complete a solo 2 day trek in between.
Thanks a lot again for your support to get our service for your short trip for gorge area!
We did a 3 day trip with Xintuo and were a bit sceptical about taking the tour as we usually hate contrived and touristy trips. However, Lily was brilliant. She helped plan a bespoke tour, answered every question we had and went above and beyond on every point.
The only brief we gave Lily was that we’d like to see the snub nose monkeys, to ride horses with Himalayan views and most importantly we wanted an authentic visit to Yunnan to experience local life.
We arrived at Lijiang train station at 7am, a little weary after the sleeper train, but were picked up by a smiling Lily and our driver, Mr He. They took us for a very tasty local breakfast at a road-side restaurant which paved the way for the delicious food throughout the trip, including yak butter tea…
During all of our stops we were introduced to people from local Yi, Naxi and Tibetan communities. One of the best parts of the trip was the authenticity of these meetings, including a wonderful 90 year old lady in a tiny, remote village, no teeth and a roaring, very contagious laugh. There was not one ounce of awkwardness or fake-ness about any of these stops.
Finally, Lily and Mr He’s hospitality was at a level rarely found. Throughout the trip they would take us to little places that they thought we would enjoy, including a beautiful view point to admire the Yangtze River, or bring us a treat, such as the strawberries from Mr He’s friend. It was topped off on our last evening where the restaurant Lily had planned to take us to was closing early. Instead of rushing us they ordered some dishes in, her husband cooked some delicious food, and we all ate around their kitchen table.
A wonderful trip that we couldn’t recommend more highly. Thank you Lily and Mr He.
So happy to hear that you were enjoying the trip with us in Lijiang area! Thanks a lot again for both of your support! Hopefully we could make much better service for the future!
We took a 3D2N tour through the mountains around Lijiang with Lily's company. Lily worked with me to craft the right plan weeks in advance. A truly beautiful and unforgettable experience. A lot of authentic interactions with real Naxi minorities living daily lives. China can be a difficult place to travel authentically within - most experiences are created for tourists (e.g. minorities who spend all day in traditional dress waiting for a tourist to arrive before starting to dance). This was an exception, where we felt like we were really just visiting guests in our guide's lives. Thank you Lily!
Thanks a lot again for your support! So happy to hear that you enjoyed with our arrangement! hopefully we could show you more in the future!
