Booked 2 rooms, awesome stay for 3 nights. The inn is perfectly located within the Lijiang ancient town, near the south gate and a short distance from the bustling and possibly noisy town centre. The rooms are clean, decorated in traditional Chinese style timber, but are equipped with modern amenities - large beds (king size or twin), free Wifi, computer, bathroom with 24 hr hot water and heating lamp. The owner LaoAn and his staff are very friendly and helpful. Thanks to LaoAn's recommendations and tips, we have had a perfect vacation in Lijiang; enjoyed our tour to the many surrounding beautiful sceneries and snow mountain. Unlike the cheap tours promoted in tourist areas, we pay a bit more for our tour (recommended by LaoAn) without the mandatory shopping tour itinerary which is a waste of time and money. We patronised local restaurants (cheaper and more value than "touristy" restaurants) - fresh local salmon cooked in hot stone and we even received a 10% discount by mentioning we were guest of Lyve Anjia before payment! LaoAn is a tea connoisseur, we have received good tips to buy the famous Yunnan Puer tea at good value.

I would recommend Lvye An Jia to travellers planning to visit Lijiang.

Room tip: High floor rooms are quieter but need to climb stairs. Ground floor rooms have convenient access to the yard/lobby.

I stayed here for 5 nights in total (using it as a base to explore Lugu Lake and Tiger Leaping Gorge in addition to visiting Lijiang) with my mom and we had a lovely experience. We spent one month in China and this was probably our favourite guesthouse. The house is built in timber in the traditional local style with a beautiful courtyard. The rooms (we stayed in No. 3 and 4) were clean and nicely decorated with a very comfortable bed. The quilt specifically was awesome. Bathrooms were clean too.

The lady we call Ayi (Auntie in Mandarin) cleans the guesthouse and cooks. She's very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her. The owner Lao An isn't there all the time but we saw him on our last day there and he's great to chat with about just anything - he's very knowledgeable about Lijiang, Yunnan and travelling in China in general. Even if he's not there, you can email him or text him (if you have a SIM card while in China) for questions and recommendations. He's very helpful and hospitable. If you have the chance to meet him while there, he will probably offer to make you tea and have a chat. :)

Location wise it is located in Old Town Lijiang and is closest to the South Gate (about a 5 min walk). We liked that it's located in a quieter part of town as Lijiang is quite touristy these days. Breakfast is included in your rate and is a traditional Chinese breakfast.

The owner speaks a little English and they are getting a new person to help around the guesthouse so hopefully he/she will too. We spoke Mandarin so communication wasn't a problem.

With regards to some of the negative reviews, I can only say that it was a matter of their expectations being too high. Honestly, with a rate of 220RMB per night, you cannot expect 5-star Western style cleanliness. We've seen a lot worse in China. If that's what you are expecting, go to the Intercontinental down the street but then you'll probably be paying 5 times the price if not more. If you are looking for a small, homely stay with authentic architecture and great value, this is the place.

Room tip: The upstairs rooms are lovely

Stayed here for 2 nights in April 2015. Arrived late at night at Lijiang old town, thankfully my friend has a mobile internet connection with baidu maps (google maps is useless for china) which guide us to LvyeAnJia location. It is a little tricky to find first time around, so make sure you ask around if you don't have baidu maps. Best spot to be dropped off at Lijiang Old Town will be at the South Gate.

A cheerful young lady had been waiting for us, greeted us and introduced herself as Wiki (Vicky in fact is her name). She can speak a little English, but since my travelling buddies can speak Mandarin, we speak Mandarin most of the time. She is very friendly and very accomodating. Again, we bombarded her with questions about Lijiang, and activities for the next two days. All were patiently answered and in the end we were booked with two day trips, one to TLG and another to DJSM. She even managed to get us 30RMB discount to the DJSM trip. Lovely! Although it was very late, she kindly offered to take us a walk around the old town so we won't get lost the next morning.

The guesthouse itself is clean, mostly built in timber, well maintained and decorated in classic Chinese. In the middle of it, there is a lovely small courtyard. The bed is huge, more on the hard side, but it's not really a problem for me. The quilt is fluffy and warm, providing much needed comfort after tiring trips.

The next morning we had a local breakfast (buns, congee, eggs and lovely variety of pickles) prepared by another lovely host we addressed by name of Ayi (means Auntie in Mandarin). She is from the Bai minority. She is also very friendly and caring. She really make sure we are well fed. :-) On the last day, after hearing I will be going back solo, Ayi offered to walk me to the bus stop where i could catch 1RMB direct bus to the train station.

I am truly grateful with the hospitality of staffs of LvyeAnJia guesthouse, they really make sure you feel right at home and always offered help whenever they can. They are truly the star of this guesthouse.

We stayed 3 nights in Feb. It gets quite cold at night so we appreciated the underbed warmer. Free drinking water is provided which we appreciated. Had interesting chats over tea with the friendly owner who speaks good english. Other staff speak basic english but 99% of their visitors are from China, and we could communicate.
It's worth asking to look at a few different rooms to choose the one that suits you best as they are all set up a little differently.
No breakfast provided but plenty of places v close to eat. The restaurant across the road did a fine spread but menu only in Chinese. One of the staff helped us talk to them.
Overall would recommend this place.

Room tip: The ones upstairs generally get more daylight

I really like the yard which is beautiful! The room is nice and clean. It's really like a "hotel room"! The staff is nice and professional. And the owner Lao Ahn gave me a lot of help for my trip so that I had a great experience in Li Jiang.
