Full name is Jinfeng Yinhua Holiday Hotel
Gailiu Alley, Shuhe Ancient Town, Lijiang, China
Booked a week but only lasted one night. The one night was certainly the chinese guest house experience - we could definitely not manage a whole week.
Basically the Shuhe Ancient Town is some distance from Lijiang, and sadly it is 2.5km too far from easy transport (1RMB double decker buses along Xianggeli Ave). So you are stuck using taxi and private buses that charge premium rates to go anywhere. The hotel is located well into the ancient town itself and is basically a 2 storey guest hotel with series of small dining rooms passing as restaurants and tea rooms. The western restaurant was nowhere to be seen (everything closed in march). Dining options inside the Ancient Town are also somewhat limited for westerners and can tend to be overpriced/overcharged. The biggest issue is having to get from the south east gate or main entrance to the hotel which is 500m walk via dusty/muddy cobbled streets.
If you choose to stay here because of a really cheap deal then only stay for a couple of nights at most. Certainly being in the Ancient Town is an experience and it is fantastic in the early morning when the area has a very authentic feel. In the evening it is also good but the Ancient feel is somewhat lost.
For westerners and non-chinese we would recomend staying closer to LIjiang at one of the many better rated alternate hotels that can be found via trip advisor. We moved across to the Pullman and it was fantastic and much better located for public bus/taxi access to Lijiang.
The rooms themselves were good sized but thin walls (can hear neighbours), extremely hard bed in the chinese style, ensuite was stained and not cleaned to expected levels. The breakfast did not really suit and the level of food hygiene was below that expected of an international accommodation. No in room safe makes it hard for securing valuables and room lacks a decent wardrobe or hanging space.
Not recomended for the elderly or infirm as the cobbles etc make it hard and it is some distance to the south east gate and main gate where the taxis/private buses wait. All access is via narrow stars and no lifts.
Taxi and Private Buses do not like going to Shuhe Ancient Town without paying double trip (both ways - 20RMB to 30RMB). Taxis from airport do not know the JFYH Hotel so you must have a map with Chinese text asking to be taken to the south-east gate (or else go to the main gate, but further to walk). Cheaper option is to share a private blue bus from the airport.
For Google users: actual Hotel position is opposite the Jiaoyinju Inn off Luyuan Rd via the South-East gate.
Staff english is limited.
