“Naxi music and Xuan Ke”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2013

My wife has been a fan of Xuan Ke for years. If you don't know of him, he is a famous orchestra leader in China. He has lead a group of local Naxi musicians for years who play ancient Chinese music. The band has played all over the world. The music is interesting to a western, my wife of course bought their CD. Average age of the band is probably 80 years old. After the concert Xuan Ke talks to the audience. He signed his autobiography and took pictures with my wife. She was thrilled, I had a good time.

“Interesting experience”

It's interesting to see this place, the old musicians, the instruments, the cloths of the musicians and how they play without a conductor that runs the show.
It's interesting to see it.

“Take a trip back in musical time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2013

This concert was just as amazing this year as when I saw it the first time in 2007. It was magical to listen to what seems to be a dying intangible heritage. Many of the musicians played ancient instruments and were over 70 years of age. Even if you don't have a front row seat, you can only be impressed by the depth and quality of the performance. Well worth attending, for sure!

“Unique”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

The feeling for me was like stepping back in time to Ancient China.
There appeared to be 28 musicians. The eldest being 90yrs of age and several in their 80's. They played musical instruments which are very old and rarely seen anywhere. The musicians wore traditional silk gowns and several of the gentleman have long beards. The music is quite haunting and each piece has a story. The stage and ceiling is decorated beautifully. One and a half hours of truly ethnic Chinese entertainment well worth experiencing.

“Worth visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

This concert was lovely to listen to and the musicians played some very old instruments. The introducer spoke good English which was great because it made the concert easier to follow. The music was lovely to listen to and great to just relax into and enjoy the Chinese atmosphere.
