“The friendliest and the warmest hospitality”

I visited Lijiang with my parents and a nephew in February this year. We put up 3 nights at Bruce Chalet. The weather was cold but the hospitality was warm. Bruce and his team is super friendly and helpful. They go extra mile to help which I really appreciate that. They miggle with us and also had tea together with us and let us taste their tea collection.

We booked our stay at Bruce Chalet based largely on the reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. This place is terrific. Obviously, it is not a luxurious hotel, but it is a charming inn with a superb service offered. Location is good, close to Shuhe old town and away from crowds and loud noise of Lijiang old town; room is clean and spacious with traditional décor; balcony has an awesome snow mountain view; the courtyard is quiet and peaceful... But what really made our stay memorable are Bruce, Bella and Julie. They are so nice and made our stay incredibly pleasant, from a warm welcome on our late arrival, tasty homemade breakfast, tea and snacks after a day out, great suggestions on where to dine, to helpful advice on how to enjoy our holiday. Everything was wonderful and much better than expected. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.

Arrived late due to aeroplane delays. Taxi (booked through Bruce) was ready and waiting. A bumpy ride to the chalet and they were up and waiting for us. Room was neat and tidy with 1 double and 1 single and an ensuite. Although no food was served that late (cannot for one minute blame them) they did find us some sweet bread rolls to stave off the hunger!
The bathroom smelt of sewers but simply closing the door stopped me from smelling it all night (and believe me I am fussy when it comes to that particular smell!)
Breakfast was a communal affair which was wonderful and my toddler (2/1/2) was treated like a princess by guests and staff alike.
Although we had another hotel booked for the consecutive nights, we used Bruce to organise tours even though it meant walking all the way back out to the chalet from town. The reason was simple. Excellent English so you could understand what you were getting, fair price and flexibility (much needed when travelling with a toddler!)
Highly recommend this place. Even if you don't stay, worth using their services for tours etc.

my husband and i stayed here in early april. all the amazing comments we had read about the chalet before making booking were true, not at all exaggerated. we are so glad that we didn't stay in lijiang old town.we were there for one afternoon and it was more than enough. shuhe is a much better place to stay. the thing i loved the most at bruce chalet was that when we got up every morning ,we could see the beautiful snow cap jade dragon snow mountain. and everday day as soon as we came back after a long day of outting and collapsing on the chairs on the balcony, one of the staff would appear with hot tea and fresh fruit for us. drinking tea with the stunning view of the snow cap mountain watching the sunset was one of the unforgettable moments in our trip. the chalet is about five minutes walk from the gate of shuhe old town and there is a bus stop 10 minutes walk away, one bus goes into lijiang and the other goes to baisha old town. the fare is 1RMB. we love walking during our trips and these buses were very handy to go to lijiang old town, black dragon pond park and the express bus station to LTG. we had booked for 4 days in bruce chalet but we liked it so much we stayed extra 2 days.on the last day bruce upgraded us for free to a room with a glass sitting room where i could see all the stars on our last night .we were very surprised and grateful that bruce let us keep the room until 9pm on the day of the checked out so that we could have a shower before getting on our overnight train back to kunming. we are already planning for our return next spring for the tranquility of shuhe, the fresh air ,amazing view of jade dragon snow moutain and the hospitality of bruce chalet.but we are going to stay longer this time.

The service provided by everyone there is impeccable. Bruce (the owner) can speak excellent english and they provided great local advise on our itinerary and also arranged for car renting with driver service which is very convenient for travellers.
They have an awesome courtyard with traditional Chinese style where you can sit and grab a beer and enjoy the tranquility. Facilities inside the room are definitely well equipped or in fact very good for holiday makers like us. Breakfast is being prepared fresh and tasty.

Definitely recommend to friends to enjoy the cozyness there!

The most cozy place I have ever came across in travelling China! When we first arrived it was late at night and we were given a warm welcome, yet I hadn't noticed the gorgeous garden until the next morning! The homemade dumplings at breakfast were extremely tasty and everyone there treated you like family in town. Bruce & his wife gets very enthusiastic in giving travel tips (although they probably repeat themselves everyday), and very detailed advice. Before our visit I knew we would get a view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from the Chalet, but the night view of the Chalet is not to miss, especially if you are into star-gazing. We relaxed in the garden for barbecue during one of the afternoons, Bruce had arranged everything - all we did was to enjoy our beer while the food got cooked.

I also loved how the place was clean and very 'livable' - hot showers were available (temperature didn't fluctuate), bathrooms were clean, soap & shampoo available in bulk bottles, laundry access, beds were comfortable, a shared tea room to relax in and internet worked great!
