Owner description: Rice & Friends Chinese cooking school offers hands-on Chinese cooking courses with English instruction in a beautiful open-air setup with mountain views. It is a very authentic and personal 5-hour cooking experience, including outdoor-market shopping for ingredients, introduction to the theory of Chinese cooking, hands-on preparation of 3 dishes with a recipe booklet to take away and plenty of time for everybody to sit down together and enjoy the meal they cooked themselves. The receipes has been tested overseas and specially designed in order to make sure you can still get all the ingredients for those dishes when you are back home.

Highly recommended to invest half a day in Dali (and 150 yuan) to take this cooking class!
The lovely teacher speaks very good English, and for the first time when we paid with her a visit to the market I could ask and hear about all the different products you see in Chinese markets and restaurants...
She explained us a lot about Chinese culture and tradition, and the basics of the different Chinese cuisine...
And of course, we cooked delicious food :)

Thank kolod

I had two cooking classes with Luxi and both were awsome.
She teach in a lovely terrace with mountain view and she organize everything very well.
After meeting, you'll go to the market with her to buy stuff and it's a good chance to see and know local products with a "local"; then, at the school, she'll show and explain you basic skills about chinese kitchen and seasonings which you'll use later for cooking.
Everyone has his own table and "mise en place", the classes are never so crowded (so you are followed step by step) and at the end you'll have a good (this depends on how you cook... ;) ) lunch together in a cozy dining room.
She'll give you a nice and useful booklet with what you done during the class.
I'm a professional chef and i really advice everybody to take a cooking class from her.
She cooks really good, she has a good knowledge of chinese products and gastronomy and she's able to teach you things in a right way, with the calm, the semplicity and the humility of a non professional.
Well done Chef ;)

I had such a great time cooking with Luxi at Rice and Friends! The classes take place in a very nice terrace, each of us had our own space to cook and it was totally “hands on”. Luxi is an adorable person with great knowledge about Chinese gastronomy and her english is very good.. She explained a lot about the main spices used by them and talked about the dishes we would prepare. We did everything together, step by step, so even people who are not in used with kitchen would be able to do it. Our food was delicious and we all ate together at the end.

Next day I come back to learn the vegetarian dumplings and again it was a great afternoon of fun. I am actually looking forward to prepare them at home. Also, it was very special that i mentioned with luxi that I would like to cook with flowers - as local farmers were selling them at the market- and in my second day she brought a beautiful pumpiking flower and we prepared it together. !
I really recomend Rice and Friends!

We have been looking for a quality cooking school throughout our stay in China and so were very excited when we saw a flyer for Rice and Friends. Our expectations were exceeded by Luxi and her incredibly interesting and fun day of cooking local Chinesw cuisine. From the tour of the market to learning new cooking techniques to Luxi's friendly and caring personality, our day at Rice and Friends stands out as a highlight of our month in China.

Amazing day and worth every cent. Luxi is friendly, intelligent and her English was amazing. Cooking on her outdoor terrace was beautiful and the day passed too fast. Was a great introduction to Chinese food and doesn't matter if your a complete beginner but it makes you want to go home and start practicing straight away. Reccommend it to everyone!
