Enjoyed our stay here. Good clean room with a balcony overlooking the garden, good shower.
Pleasant garden to sit in. Helpful owners and staff. Good breakfast.
Only drawback is neighbour's noisy dog but we slept well anyway.

Pros: the staff were really lovely. They were helpful and welcoming. The room was gorgeous, had loads of natural light and overlooked the gardens. It was spacious and comfortable. Hot showers, a great guest library and bikes (both bicycles and electric ones) are available for rent. The food is nice and after a week in China it was a welcomed break to have something Western to eat. Free wifi too.

Cons: unfortunately there are some neighbouring animals that disturbed our sleep. A dog next door is kept in a tiny courtyard and bored out of its brain. It barks intermittently throughout the day and fairly steadily throughout the night. It barely drew breath between 8pm and 11pm and then continued on and off until morning. In addition to this poor pooch is a rooster that crows a couple of times throughout the night and then constantly from 4:30am onwards. The only other downside was the bathroom - it's small (which in itself is not a problem) so when you shower the toilet etc gets covered in water.

I could put up with the shower problem and stay again, but I'd need to know the dog and rooster had been taken care of as I like to have a good night's sleep ;-)

To start off, the location is beautiful.

This place is virtually impossible to sleep in. There is a dog next door which barks throughout the night, there are random kids screaming and laughing, and the owners dogs bark also thought he night.

This was the perfect place to see Dali from. It's on the town's edge, so you're only a few minute's walk from the main streets with their shops and restaurants, but it's far enough away that you don't have to deal with noise from the other tourists. The only downside was that one morning a rooster somewhere in the neighborhood decided to wake up really early, but the sunny rooms and unbelievably helpful staff more than made up for any tiny inconvenience (and a rooster is definitely better than noise from bars). I look forward to going back.

We spent our Chinese New Year holydays in Jan 2011, situated close the west door, of old town, Sleepy fish is managed by Maxine an English architect and a very helpful, polite and smiling staff.
The ambience is cozy, rooms are very clean and made with nice materials, free wifi in all the place, hot showers.
Food choice is limited but all good quality, right price.if you are lucky you can happen to be there during a pizza night when the owner lights up a wooden oven and bakes good pizzas.
There are 2 giants dogs, who are friendly and cute, that run free in the garden so if you don't like them you may choose another place.
If you are looking for a guesthouse where to meet young budget traveller and want to party you may want to choose another guesthouse, but if you are looking to relax 1or, have your laundry done properly and stay out of the chaos, then is right place.
All services are available, from taxi from and to the airport (100 yuan for a small car) kayak and bycicle rental.

Located on eastern edge of old town in a quiet area. Rooms have relaxing balconies. Outdoor sitting space on ok is also great. Wood fired pizza oven is nearly complete. Dali is a lovely town and this place gives you its good ambience without the hustle of .foreigners. Street. Actually few foreign touristsin town at this time but many chinese tourists. The owners are working on projects in the town area to help old people and have sustainability ethic.

This is my 2nd time staying at this place. The place was kept well even after more than a year. The 2 dogs are just too lovely, though one of them will steal your food on the table. The owners unfortunately allow the dogs to roam freely even to the eating area.

Pro : Clean, quiet and comfortable. They clean up your rooms and provide towels, toothbrush, shampoo etc.

Con : A distance away from the centre of activity within the old city.
The toilet space is very cramped.

They do help with bus tickets and the bus agents will come pick you up. The helpful staff at the lodge actually walks you to the main road to help you get on your bus to your next destination.
Food is not the lodge forte, but there are good options for breakfast and chinese dishes within walking distance. For best western breakfast option, try bakery88.

Room Tip: The lodge can arrange your next destination bus booking.
