This was one of our final stops on our trip around Yunnan and was described to us a touch of luxury before we went home. They werent wrong. The rooms were beautifully appinted with great bathroom. The bar and restaurant were great too. The breakfast was Western which after 10 days of travelling was nice. Just to have coffeee and toast with jam was great. The old town is only 10 minutes walk away (road is under repair so a bit messy but worth it). We bought some antiques - they were lovely and a good price. The staff can tell you which places to go. It was a westernised approach to a hotel in the middle of a beautiful village but sometimes its nice to get a little of this after roughing it a bit for the few days before. We went for a horse drawn carriage ride - tourist but fun and the idigo factory was great - we did our own tye dye. It was a bit of a shock to be surrounded by Americans in the middle of China but they were so warm and friendly we soon got used to it. A surprise but definitley worth the visit

Room Tip: All of the rooms are good. Maybe away from the central courtyard as the walls are paper thin. They c...

We found a real treasure awaiting us when we arrived at the Linden Centre. We loved the feeling of the centre from the beautiful, old,Dali marble walls decorating the courtyards,to the statues, to the roof terrace overlooking the gorgeous countryside. The staff was very warm and personable and made our stay memorable by setting up day excursions. We were able to go to a tea plantation and pick and roast tea leaves, venture out to the local market, and experience a local tie dye factory! We had nicely appointed rooms with comfortable beds- a plus for us! We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts -homemade breads, jams, fruits, pancakes, eggs and of course juice and coffee. My family and I would recommend the Linden Centre and would love to come back someday.

Amazing how perceptions can limit one's experience.... before arriving, I imagined China would be overcrowded cities, and ghost villages in countrysides being deserted by the young. In Yunnan Province, Dali is a living, vibrant jewel of multi-ethnicity, beautiful natural landscapes painted by God, and managed by humans producing sustenance in the same way for thousands of years. Visiting Dali is stepping back in time. In the middle of this wonderland is the Linden Centre, located in the pristine village of Xizhou. The Linden Centre is a sanctuary, where one can fully optimize the experience of the land and culture. Brian, Jeanee, Frank and their staff are more personal docents, than hoteliers. Their metric is to optimize the experience, and develop relationships. The accommodations and attention to comfort and detail are first rate. Memories are made here. Experience the Linden Centre for the first time.... if you're like me, it will not be your last.

We had a wonderful stay at the Linden Centre. We were made to feel at home right from the begining. The staff were warm , helpful and informative. The rooms were very nice.. the best showers all holiday! We had a great morning being shown around the village by our lovely hotel personnel , Ruby. And a fun night in the old town of Dali.
Further into our itinerary , I discovered that I had left behind a small bag , to which the staff, Lucy & Frank went to alot of trouble & their own expense to forward on to me in Hong Kong. I truely apprectiate the special effort that you have shown. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Linden Centre.Thankyou!

The Linden Centre is located in the village Xizhou near Dali. Don't make the mistake not to book this hotel just because you think Dali might be too far away. 1) Simply take a taxi, it's cheap. 2) We stayed 2 nights in Dali and went to Xizhou because we were told it is a still authentic old village - which it is. So for our 3rd night we decided to stay at the Linden Centre, which was the best decision ever.

The hotel is absolutely charming as it is a historic building, there are no TVs in the rooms (thank God for that, if you travel through China and have to stay in bigger hotels, you sooo appreciate the quiet...), the decoration is very nice with eye for details, the staff is incredibly welcoming and hospitable, there is a roof terrace with a grand view of the surrounding landscape (mountains and rice fields and that's it - no noisy street) - in other words this is a place where you can easily feel like home.

On the menu you will find typical Yunnan food. Do try the Zucchinis with Yunnan Ham or the Grandmother Potatoes - delicious...

When we flew from Kunming to Beijing we met Jeanee, the owner, on the plane. There was a delay of several hours and as we don't speak Chinese and didn't understand the announcements, we felt pretty lost at first. Jeanee instantly took us under her wing and gave us updates on what's going on. Thanks ever so much for your help, Jeanee. Should we come back to Dali, we know where we will stay!

Had need for one night stay in Dali and initially booked on a ctrip and othe Chinese travel sites recommendations the Regency in Dali itself. However, decided i dis not want the Chinese 4* big hotel even if in the center, so stumbled on the Linden Center and it was a good call.

Sylish, well run, good service, village location over looking lush green paddy fields and mountains in the distance. Tranquil and very relaxing. Will definitely consider a trip back with the family.

Brian and Jeanie Linden have done an excellent job in creating a real oasis and beautiful home in the small village of Xizhou. However, rather than build a luxury property in the countryside, they did this the hard way by restoring an existing old courtyard home back to it's original splendor. This is for the traveller who wants to learn about Chinese history and culture in this part of China and experience a different side of China away from the hectic pace of the big cities. The team at the Linden Center go out of their way to make you feel at home and the food and entire cultural experience is not to be missed. There are only 12 or 14 rooms though, so book well in advance! Thank you Jeanie, Brian and team, we had a great time.
