The story of the Karez water system is very well presented and laid out. The grape vineyards all through the exhibits are a really pleasant part of this experience.

While driving to the lake that is the second lowest point on earth after Death Valley, our driver stopped near an large empty field and explained the Kariz water system. Quite interesting to see it then to go to the museum to see how they work and are built.

Got cheated by the taxi driver, just be cautious the drivers are very tricky. We asked to go to the Karez and Jiao He Ruin City was told its Rmb20 and Rmb30 but when inside his car he asked which Karez?

At the end of the trip he said it was Rmb40 (one way we had to pay for return) instead and I did not want to argue with him total bill was RMB130.

To be fair he did spend the few hours waiting for us, I told him he did not have to but he was either too lazy to drive 10 km back into town or just wanted to rip us off!

I liked the whole engineering feat about this place. How they have rerouted water to a desert and transformed it into an oasis and one of the largest grape producing regions

very fascinating bit of 2000 yr old engineering. quite impressive. nice to see some ancient marvel that was for the good of the people then. Pyramids in Eqypt are wonderful and amazing but a testament to grandiose egos, Terra Cotta soldiers very impressive but if they were being built today they would be totally condemned and boycotted as a tourist attraction as the whacko king had most of the people who made them killed!
