Good attraction.

During non-peak seasons (winter), beware that buses don't run there from the airport. Be prepared to take a taxi that costs RMB 250~400 depending on your negotiation skills. There aren't a lot of taxis during non-peak seasons so you don't have much of a choice. Try to taxi-pool with travelers already at the airport and choose people who took the same plane as you so you don't run into scammers. Also negotiate with the same driver for a ride back to the airport beforehand so you have a ride when you leave.

Some areas in the reserve will be out of bounds during or after heavy snow, but there is still plenty of other things to fill a full day.

“Natural Wonder”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Though this place is famous for its beautiful red leaves in autumn, I visited it in spring time. I did like it so much. I went by ourselves and not by tour. We ook a ride of park coach to the top and then walked along the easy hiling trail from the top to the entrance. We had enough time to the beau ty of each awesome small lake one by one. We have enough time to take photo of this natural wonder especially the very very clear water. So amazing and so peaceful. One thing to remind those will visit it in autumn, you can't definitely escape from the crowded people. Don't complain at that moment!

“Nature's winter wonderland”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

Loved the low season 'crowd'. It was quieter and peaceful. You can truly feel the gentle messages of the surroundings.

Do take note of the bus shuttle timings and check before hand. Timings change accordingly during the day in low season. Get a two-day pass as it is cheaper than buying for separate days.

“Fairy Wonderland”

The scenery looks like picture postcard in late Oct and early Nov. Photos turned out picture perfect whichever angle you took! MUST go before this nature reserve gets polluted and ruin by tourists.

“One of the most beautiful place in China”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

Visited Jiuzhaigou in Winter and it is not that colourful. However, it is still very beautiful. The waterfalls, the ponds, the lakes, the streams are just breath-taking. In winter it is not very clouded but it is a bit cold and most hotels operate at minimal staff and no heater in the room (make sure they at least provide heater mattress and hot shower). Rain or snow may also spoil the mood but it would not happen every day. The advantage is you are more relax during this low season. The hotels and tour package is cheaper as well. However, some parts of the park may be closed if the snow is too heavy. Advisable to check before you go.

Although you can cover all the 3 "gou" (valleys) in one day, it will be better if you can spare 2 days. The 日则沟 deserve one full day and the other 2 "gou" in another day. If the distance is not too far, you should walk from one view point to the next instead of using the shutter bus so that you can see more. There are good info on the distances at each view point.

It is also good idea to bring your own lunch and find a quiet and nice corner to have it with your partners. You may attract some birds or even some small animals to come to share your food. food inside the park is expensive and can be found only at the "centre poin" canteen.

Journey from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou is now quite comfortable and safe. I trust this road must be constructed after the earthquake. You can see the remains of the old road here and there.

I had a happy time there.
