I was travelling from Beijing to Shanghai and wanted somewhere interesting for a day + night stop. Decided to visit the holiest of Chinese mountains, Taishan. Very easy. High speed train to Tai'an, taxi (cost £5, 30 mins) to Four Points hotel. Stayed the night and then next day got up early to climb the 6000 steps to top of the mountain. Hotel was very friendly, good value, good location (20 min walk to the start of the walk, or the Dai Temple or restaurants), great breakfast, clean and modern rooms. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the gym / swimming pool doesn't open until Dec 2012.
