Qufu International Youth Hostel
Ranked #2 of 5 Specialty Lodging in Qufu
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for a couple of days in June. It is situated on Gulou Beijie. I am listing down the positives and negatives of the place.

Positives
1. Near the Confucius mansion and museum. Also close to the Confucius temple.
2. Lot of transport just outside the place in case you need to go to the railway station or bus station.
3. Nice towels and the good part was that the guesthouse stocked the bath with bottles of shampoo , body wash and hand wash
4. The guesthouse has a good vibe to it with a bar/restaurant area and a DVD room/ computer area
5. The wifi signal is pretty good across the areas
6. The reception staff knows ok english
7. The family room was compact and ok
8. Your deposit is loaded onto a card, which you can use for sundries at the guesthouse.

The average
1. The common areas shut at 11 pm, which could be z bit too early
2. In the absence of a shower curtain, the bath area gets wet all over.

All in all , it's good value for what you pay .

Very clean rooms and bathroom (some of the cleanest during our travels in China). We had a private room on the second floor and were really happy with it. Could do our own laundry, and enjoyed our breakfast there. The staff (especially at the front desk) went out of their way to be helpful.
Easy walk to the best sites in Qufu.
We just wanted something simple to eat (off the menu) and they made it for us.
It was really busy (with locals and guests on the weekends). It was much quieter (on the`weekdays).

Room Tip: Get a twin on the second floor.

Didn't stay here, but saw the rooms & it was clean & well-maintained, including the communal showers & loos.
Ate in the cozy restaurant: good local food & reasonably priced. The menu was mortly Western food & we plumped for local items - the descriptions weren't very clear ("scallion pancake" was actually cold dry pancakes where you pick from & add an assortment of cold ingredients including cold dried fish & shredded veggies....).
Anyway, a good central location to while away an evening in Qufu!

This was a really lovely little hostel, situated on the main road within the city walls, it was close to the night market and all the main Confucian attractions of Qufu.

The staff had basic English and were really helpful. The room was clean and there is a lovely courtyard where you can sit out in the sun.

The restaurant had a homely feel with a pool table and other board games. Not a massively busy hostel, but definitely a good choice in Qufu.

I hired a bike, brilliant way to see everything, just make sure you test it before you take it out, some if them are a bit ropey!

This is a fantastic little hostel that's a very short walking distance to the Confucius Temple and Family Mansion. The room was very clean and quiet. My room was upstairs so I had to carry my luggage up a flight of stairs. The staff was very helpful and spoke enough English to assist with directions and train schedules. The best part was the food! The cook was excellent at breakfast, lunch and dinner. All reasonably priced and very tasty. I especially loved the Henan noodle soup with tomato, egg and greens. There are lots of tourist restaurants at the exit of the Confucius Mansion, but I passed them up to eat back at the hostel. Wi-fi is only downstairs in the dining room.

Room Tip: Don't stay upstairs unless you're able to carry your own luggage.

The hostel is just by the Confucius temple and a 20 min walk from his tomb, so really it couldn't be better. My husband and I had a family room with a bathroom, and it was clean and spacious. The only thing was that the shower was open, no curtain or anything, so after you've used it, the whole bathroom floor was wet. But that's no biggie, as you'd normally be leaving the room or going to sleep right after a shower, so it had time to dry.

There was some singing and guitar playing in the courtyard in the evening, but it stopped around 10pm anyway, so no noise problems at all. The hostel staff spoke English and were very helpful. They held our bags when we arrived before our room was ready so that we could start exploring the city, and again after we had checked out since our train wasn't until 4pm.

We stayed one night and had a private ensuite room. The room was recently renovated so everything is new and the bathroom in great shape. They also provided toiletries and bath towels.
Our room was off the street in the corner of the courtyard, so we don't hear traffic at all. There is a clothesline outside our room so we can hang wet clothings outside. The restaurant has a variety of Chinese and Western dishes to choose from. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hostel takes a 100 yuan deposit but this is given to us in the form of a cash card which we can use to pay for meals in the hostel.
We only stayed 1 night here but have a very good impression of this hostel.
