We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The hotel is such a neighborhood gem with a wonderful ambiance. Pull up to a discrete entrance on 20th Street, hand your keys to the valet and walk in to the funky little bar and lobby. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. On arrival, we were informed we were up graded to a suite on the third floor. We loved the room, It had lots of windows which looked down on the restaurants and shops below. The room was large and decorated with taste and keeping with the period of the historical hotel. The bed slept great and it is quite obvious that housekeeping is on their toes, the room was spotless. We will be back.

We stayed here on a roadtrip through Alabama and it was the nicest hotel we were in. It was just beautiful. The parking was a little inconvenient, but nothing too bad. The garage is located behind the hotel, but it has a back entrance. The rooms were clean and really comfortable. It's located in a fun neighborhood, walking distance from lots of restaurants. The breakfast the hotel provides is wonderful! There were lots of options and it was never too crowded. There's also a nice private area for computer use for guests.

The only reason my husband and I were able to stay here was due to a friends & family discount. Otherwise, the rooms are very expensive for what you get-which is modern decor. Valet parking is your only option, so if traveling with chidren, make sure they get everything they need/want out of the car. It is a nice view of Birmingham. The hotel does offer a free continental breakfast, which includes eggs, bacon, grits, waffles, etc.

Great hotel for business or pleasure. It is located in the heart of the 5 points area close to UAB and the rest of downtown. Very old hotel building but refurbished to be a kind of a boutique property with a Indigo/W feel. I am not saying that it is up to those standards but it has that modern, hip feel. The lobby is small but nice with a great bar and bar tender. The rooms are modern and have all the things you need.(comfy bed, LCD TV, decent size bath, and it is clean. I booked for $90.00 thru website. At that price it is a BARGIN. One word of wisdom self park in the deck in the back for 4 dollars(no in and out) instead of paying valet 14.00.

This was my second stay and my husband's first stay at the Hotel Highland at Five Points South. My husband was very impressed. Our youngest son is going to school at BSC, so we were in Birmingham delivering him back to school. It is very convenient to the college and the freeway. Great neighborhood with many great restaurants within walking distance-2 blocks or less. The rooms are beautiful, very trendy, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The TV went out in our room and they had a new one in in less than 15 minutes. I love this hotel !

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the festivities of a wedding we were attending. The rates were competitive, but the ability to walk to the wedding at the beautiful church next door was the main draw. Valet parking in a secure garage was available, but we were fine parking at the meters (which were free for the weekend). The lobby of the hotel was small but nice. The only visually negative about the place was the very old elavator. We opted for what is listed as the "smaller" room, but were surprised to see that it was the size of a traditional room at most hotels. The bed was very comfortable and clean. Everything in the room, met or exceeded expectations. Loads of dining and night life was available within walking distance. I think I counted 4 sit down restaurants including a breakfast diner, two fast food joints, and 5 bars/night clubs within 400 yards of the front door. The free breakfast looked okay to me, but it wasn't up to my wife's standards so we decide to stop at a Cracker Barrell on our way back up to TN.
Overall this is a great hotel and I would definately recommend it/stay there again.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the beautiful church on the corner.

Thank you for your lovely review of our hotel! We are so glad your experience was a postive one while visiting Birmingham! Yes, indeed there are a lot of restaurants and entertainment venues, well within walking distance of the front door, that should suit everyone's taste! I did want to mention the elevators, as they are original to the hotel when it was the Medical Arts Building, but I can assure you the "guts" of the elevators are brand new, as they were replaced last year. Did you happen to see the Medical emblem on the elevator doors...very neat to know they have been on those doors since the mid 1930's....a cool little detail that is sometimes overlooked! You must look for them the next time you are here! Please stop by on your next visit! Thank you again and have a fabulous day~ Renee

Excellent boutique hotel situated in the bohemian 5 Points area of Birmingham.

The bed was very comfortable with high grade linens and comforter. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, decent water pressure in the shower and sink. The hotel is a historic building and I did notice a bit of a musty smell in the hallways.

There is a very good free breakfast til 10am weekdays and a lil later on the weekends, that had a selection that was well above a Continental. The weekend hostess in the breakfast room was excellent and she provided the guests with sincere down south hospitality.

I had a few problems, at check in the front desk employee Stephanie took a lengthy future phone reservation, where all of the information had to be given to her 3 times for some reason, putting the call on hold and doing my 30 second check in would have been appreciated after a long travel day. The "volume up" level on the TV remote in my room would not work. However these small things are easy to overlook to find a boutique jem like this Birmingham!

Excellent restaurants within walking distance, as well as shopping and nightlife.

Special thanks to employee Renee, whose courtesy and consideration went above and beyond.
