Cobb Lane Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #2 of 13 Birmingham B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 3, 2010

We stayed there as part of a weekend trip to do the Richard Petty Driving Experience. There were two couples traveling, so we stayed at their guest condo instead of the main house (which is right next door). The main house is much nicer, but also more expensive. I would definatley recommend staying there instead of the guest condo if you only need one room or are only there for one or two nights. The innkeeper was very informative. And the location was great to walk somewhere close for dinner. There were homemade cookies for us in the parlor which was a nice touch. We could use the main house sitting area to visit if we wanted and that was also where we ate breakfast. The condo was very clean--but the bathroom sink would get stuck on the door opening and closing and the fiberglass tub was not something I was particularly crazy about. (The bath could use a remodel.) The beds and furnishings were done as an attempt to match the home next door and were very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and was just the right amount. It eggs with fruit and a crescent pastry filled with sausage and cream cheese. I would stay there again and would recommend the Cobb Lane to my friends.

We no longer have the condo next door for COBB LANE BED AND BREAKFAST guests. For those seeking larger accommodations with more features, we purchased and restored a 2.5 times larger Victorian Mansion in the same historic district, the HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST. It has 10 Guest Bedrooms, one has a kitchenette and is an Extended Stay accommodation (GARDEN VIEW SUITE), 2 have Queen and TWin Beds to sleep 3 guests (VULCAN VISTA SUITE, BLUE SERENITY SUITE) and 2 more sleep 4 guests (SOUTHERN BELLE SUITE AND ENCHANTING TURRET SUITE). Please come again. THANK YOU for being our guests.

My husband and I were able to step back in time and relax with the finest. We slept late, ate a home cooked meal every morning, took afternoon naps and enjoyed strolling through the surrounding areas. All of this MINUS the kids!! ;)

Ira and Sheila were a true joy. Stories, restaurant recommendations and directions were always ready. Not to mention homemade cookies in the parlor!!

We stayed in the Southern Magnolia Suite, and were truly impressed. We never would have imagined being able to have drinks and lounge on the fainting couch in our own parlor! Highly recommended.

We were able to "snoop" through the home and see all of the rooms. Of course I liked ours the best, but each one was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The Zebra room looks pretty neat too, and has a private entrance.

I will recommend this B&B to everyone!!

Congratulations on your Anniversary. May you be blessed with many happy years in the future. We are glad you had a relaxing and memorable getaway at our COBB LANE BED AND BREAKFAST. Guests enjoy SOUTHERN MAGNOLIA SUITE, it is often the choice of Wedding Honeymoon and Anniversary couples. Often Brides will have their portrait photographs made in the Parlor with the Scarlett O'Hara Fainting Couch or the Lead Gilded Crystal Glass window on the main staircase. Please also stay at our newly restored HASSINGER DANIELS MANION BED AND BREAKFAST, 2 blocks away, in the same Culinary Center of Birmingham in the Five Points Historic District. Lots to choose from with the 41 restaurants and evening entertainment venues right out the door. THANK YOU for coming!

We stayed over the 4th of July week-end, our 3rd visit. The Inn with its sweeping front porch has the best July 4th Fireworks view of REd Mountain dislace in the City. Sheila served us hot fudge sundaes (no charge) and Ira entertained us with stories and tours of his Carousel Horse Carving Studio, just 2 blocks away in another Historic Building. It felt like the turn of the century, just what we had in mind for a great get-away. The whole Inn is beautiful, you can't beat the price since other hotels charge 15-20% but with no service or friendly atmosphere. Breakfasts had interesting people, like usual, to meet and enjoy. You must try their Sausage Croissant Bake breakfast dish, it is so yummy, we always look forward to that.

A "Beautiful Victorian Doll House with Gracious Hospitality". What a wonderful thing to say. We appreciate you so much for writing it about COBB LANE BED AND BREAKFAST. We now have a 2nd "Doll House", 2 blocks away is our more recently restored HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST. There are actual doll houses in it, I'll be happy to show you when you come again. THANK YOU for being our guests.

We've stayed at several B & B's through out the east and midwest. This was a big dissapointment. Even though it was beautifully decorated we had a bad experience. First, our suite was not very clean. Even though the bathroom was clean and at first glance the furniture seemed clean but looking closely you could see how dusty other parts of the rooms were. Dust on the tops of the bedposts, the drapery, the legs of the rocking chair and more areas were loaded with dust. It definately needs a spring cleaning. As for breakfast......that also was below average. The first breakfast was scrambled eggs with a sprinkling of cheese, a tastless steak, fruit and corn muffin. The corn muffin was great but the rest was blah. The second breakfast was scrambled eggs (no cheese this time), a sausage patty, fruit and a biscuit. The biscuit was good but the rest was no better than McDonald's eggs and sausage. You would think they would serve something different than eggs two days in a row. When you stay at a B&B you expect something different than a hotel. A nice clean bedroom and a wonderful breakfast. This place fell short of our expectations. I've read other reviews that told how much they enjoyed their stay.... they must have no taste buds and need glasses.

This is comparitively a very affordable bed and breakfast. We made our reservations late and got the last available room - I think it's CORINA - the smallest one by the kitchen. It was small but very clean and cozy. The bed is only a full size so a little short for us - but hey, we knew this when we booked the room. One little quirk is that the bathroom is across the hall - but I'm sure that had to be done to preserve the integrity of the inn. It would not have been my first choice of room, but overall it was adequate and very nicely decorated. We found ourselves without washclothes but never reported it because our trip was so short. Breakfast was fine - Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, sausage patties, eggs, fruit, and Minute Maid OJ. Not fancy, but for an $89 room we expected nice, not gourmet, and that's what we got. Word of Warning - it IS quite noisy from the bar behind it, and it does get chilly in the rooms. There is a space heater.

For a long wedding weekend, this was a perfect choice for us. The location was convenient, the room we had was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good with many interesting people to chat with each morning.
We stayed in the Zebra room and like the “separateness” of the space. The hostess treated us as guests in her home. We would definitely return if we have reason to travel to Birmingham again.

We are delighted that you felt like special guests in our home, staying at our COBB LANE BED AND BREAFKAST, which is exactly what our guests are to us. We hope you'll also try our nearby 2nd Inn, also a restored Victorian Mansion on the National Historic Registry, the HASSINGER DANIELS MANSION BED AND BREAKFAST. Thank you for coming!

We spent there a night. It's a lovely place with nice rooms. The one you can see in our photos is the "zebra suite" on the lowest floor and looking at the back parking lot. They offer free wifi, complementary beverages and we had a nice breakfast with the owner who was very helpful. a place to stay in Birmingham ( ask them the direction to dreamland restaurant they serve the best ribs i ever taste)
