“Long Time Good Place”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

Ranelli's is not a place to go to for ambiance. It is a little bit of a dump. Bit the food is sooo good. I began frequenting the Ranelli's at 5 points West in the mid-1970's and when that one closed switched to south side. My favorite is the Rich Man sandwich. It's big, with plenty of olive salad and meat and cheese. A total meal. The price is good too.

“Pizza was good! But the place is a dump.”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

I got pizza to go with a Groupon. If I had not already had a Groupon for this place, I would have never stayed or even looked for the place. It's not nice, and at first, I didn't even know if it was open. I don't recommend going there in early evening, or later either.

This little place has been in Birmingham many years. The food is always good. Very reasonably priced. The lady who always takes our order is very sweet & helpful.

“Very Good Sandwich”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

Picked up lunch to go from here last week, had a small meatball and a small richman. The meatball sub was awesome, big meatballs, 4 of them crowded into a 6" roll. The meatballs were really good, a little spicy, the roll was great and fresh, the sauce was good but not enough for the sandwich, and the cheese was normal, not alot, not a little. The richman (poorboy) was ok. The bread, cheese and olive salad were good, the 5 meats were kinda bland and chewy, i don't like chewy deli meat. so overall, this place was good, i would recommend the meatball sub and ask for extra sauce.

“Pretty Good Food”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

Ranelli's was around the corner from the B&B I was staying at, so I decided to grab supper to-go. I ordered a meatball poboy and a salad. Food was good. Nothing outstanding, but solidly good. Bread was fresh, meatballs were large, sauce was tasty. Salad was just tomato and iceberg lettuce, but it was fresh. Prices were fair.

Service was good if a little strange....one guy talked on the phone the whole time, and the other guy made cat noises. I was glad I ordered take-out. The restaurant itself isn't much to look at, but if you are with friends and having a good time, you probably won't notice.
