Great dinner, reasonably priced, fresh and flavorful food. Poetions were perfectly sized. Atmosphere was a little loud, but fast and friendly service.

Have always seen the great ratings and wanted to go, but we don't eat Mexican or Tex mex too often...so, off we went on a Friday after work. They open at 5. We were there at 5:15 and it was full.
Parking is on the street, so if you see something with-in blocks, grab it else you'll be hitting the maze of one way streets trying to find a place.
Seating was a bit more crowded than I like. Once you squeeze between tables to sit, you almost hate to squeeze back by for a trip to the restroom, so go there first!
The queso is the best I've ever had- with a dash of tequila and chipotle...the chips came out hot-thicker than some.
We ordered the gulf shrimp quesadilla and the Al pastor tacos-marinated pork with spicy pineapple. Both delicious
Lots of food! Add on a few beers
Tab was around $40-$50

Wow! Inventive, fresh, beyond-delicious food. Great server in Philip! And no matter how full you are after your main entree, order the amazing chocolate tres leche cake.

Maybe you wouldn't expect excellent, creative Mexican food in Alabama. Well, you would wrong. The food at El Barrio is terrific. Start off with the street corn. Elote Asado. It's amazing. Three weeks later I still crave it. Order at least the large serving. If that's all you eat you will go home with a smile. We also had some specials which were also creative and excellent, but the corn is what you will remember. We had a 35 minute wait on a rainy Friday night at 7:15. It was up to an hour by 7:45. I would suggest going earlier.

Took my 3 year old to the McWane Center and we stopped to eat here for lunch! SO GOOD. She said it's the best queso she's ever had. And i agree! They didn't have a kids menu which I found odd, and frankly quite dumb. BUT they did have a cheese quesadilla option that they off to kids- it was huge and delicious! I got the shrimp quesadilla- so good and FILLED with shrimp. The el barrio margarita was delicious as well! No complaints! Good & service was excellent!
