I have a soft spot for Asian food, and Saigon Noodle House in Birmingham executes splendidly. After a weeklong diet of fried Southern food and lame salads, our group needed a break from heavy artery clogging meals and this seemed like just the ticket. Two orders of the pork and shrimp rolls were the perfect blend of crunch, chew, savor and tang (the sauce!). Ingredients tasted fresh and more than whet our appetite for pho. Standard thin slice beef with rice noodles in a great broth that just sent all our senses (okay, we didn't bathe in it, but we could have) over the moon. Plenty of sprouts, basil, peppers and lime to spruce it up the way you want. Hard to have a business conversation over the steaming soup, but sometimes you just have to put the notepad down and enjoy. Staff was a little slow off the mark and the strip mall setting and decor are ho-hum, but not worth a quibble. Steady business of take-out and regulars, but not crowded on a Thursday. I'll go back next time I am in town.
