“Superb Museum with a child friendly focus”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This is a top-notch museum! The aircraft displays are superb and it is rare to see women's role in aviation highlighted so well. This is a must visit museum which is child friendly and and a real treat. Don't miss this museum on your next trip through the area s it is worth the visit. Check out the SR-71 display which includes an actual aircraft. The Tuskegee Airman's display is outstanding.

“A Hidden Gem”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Small but worthwhile. Quite a few displays but most of hands, off and understandably so. There was a great deal of aviation history and lots to read. Located close to the airport, this is a convenient place to spend a few hours. There are a few large meeting rooms so it's also a good place to have a gathering.

“Great getaway for kids”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This is a great getaway for something to do on a Saturday morning. Located beside Birmingham airport, kids can explore all sorts of aircraft and even take a seat in the cockpit. Large collection of aircraft engines as well. It would be a great cub scout outing as well. Not expensive.

“Designed for an older audience”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

My family stopped by this museum during a recent trip to Birmingham, thinking my almost-4-year-old son would like seeing the planes. We miscalculated a bit; he liked seeing the planes, but what he really wanted to do was climb in them, which is not allowed (except for one small plane, which he did enjoy). In fact, the majority of our time was split between that one plane and the kid's area, which includes Duplo sets for making planes, some sit-and-ride plane toys and things of that sort.

I'm sure this is a nice museum if you are very much into aircraft (especially military aircraft), but it's not a great stop for kids.

“Not a large variety of planes, but many good displays”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

There were full-sized reproductions of the Wright Flier and a early Curtis pusher. There were quite a few home-built planes made from kits. There were some trainers from the Tuskeegee airmen days, and a large Russian Hind military helicopter. For those intersted in engines, there were several on display. It takes an hour or two to see the exhibits, which were well marked and had good descriptions.
