Owner description: This historic museum traces the journey of the civil rights advocates of the 1950s and 60s, who changed the course of American history. The struggle for equality for Black Americans is chronicled here, from the Jim Crow laws in the 1800s to the freedom rides, sit-ins and demonstrations of the 1960s.

“Comprehensive; a must visit”
Reviewed February 4, 2012

This museum is a must for those with any interest in the Civil Rights movement. It is extremely comprehensive and is nice in giving a broad overview with specifics about the Birmingham area. It is also right across the street from Kelly Ingram Park, ground zero for Project-C and 16th street Baptist church, site of the 1963 bombing that killed 4 girls.
Extremely well done and moving museum.

“Powerful place to visit”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

Spent about three hours there and was totally taken in by the exhibits. A lot to read and think about regarding some horrific events in the not so distant past.
