This is very special temple in Chinese history, you can trace the root of all Buddhist schools in much of the east Asian back to this place. try to do some home work before visiting here, or you would feel this is no difference than any other Chinese temple.

We stayed in the Old Town area of Luoyang and took a cab there. Cost 40¥. It is not much faster than the bus but a lot more expensive. I recommend taking bus there.
Entrance fee was 30¥.

There are a couple of temples within, a Bell tower, a Drum tower, a pagoda and couple of museums. There is also an Indian style Buddhist temple donated by India and a Thai style Buddhist temple.

Overall they are just like any other temples. It is famous because it was the first Buddhist temple in China. If you are really interested in how White Horse Temple influences Buddhism in China and various region, you should hire a guide. Otherwise, it is not worth the time or effort.

Can see that the place has alot of fascinating history and significance by being the first Buddhist temple in China. However, it is recommended to read up about the temple first before you visit or hire a tour guide otherwise the trip might not be as fruitful. A very informative exhibition at one of the halls will give you more information about the temple and do visit the Indian and Thailand Buddhist temples.

This is very well kept secret ... the temple is the very 1st buddhist temple of ancient China and the very 1st monks were from India.

Beautiful gardens and architecture. Interesting section with temples from other parts of the world. if you are a fan of the TV series Monkey you must visit as it is where Tripitaka began his journey.
