WangFu Yu HuaYuan (ZhongZhou East Road)
Ranked #15 of 150 Restaurants in Luoyang

I took a gamble on this because I have absolutely no idea where to dine in Luoyang. 7 of us came to Luoyang to visit the Longmen Grottoes. Caught the first morning from Xi'an North and managed to finish Longmen Grottoes by noon. I didn't want to eat street food after Xi'an's experience. No offence but Xi'an's food in general is pretty terrible for chinese standards. There was so minimal reviews and no photos as well but thanks to the positive write ups, I hope I can contribute my share of experience here.

Now...how to get here? Easy...for me, I took bus 53 from Longmen Grottoes all the way to this place. Quite a long ride...probably half hour or more. Where to get down is easy. I just told bus driver that I want to go to Zen Bu Tong Restaurant. Everyone seems to know this restaurant. They're popular but too many bad reviews for me to try them out. Besides, I don't want to eat 24 soup based dishes (their water banquet cuisine). If you want to be sure, I've posted a photo of the bus stop that I got down from. Just show it to the driver. After getting down the bus here, the restaurant is just 50m opposite side of the road. Wangfu Imperial Duck is also opposite Zen Bu Tong. There are 2 chinese lion statues in front of their entrance. Their signboard is in chinese...so I post a photo of their entrance too.

If I remember correctly (sorry, been 1 month+ now), their menu is in English. If not, many pictures to look at from their thick menu book. Prices are all well indicated in Yuan and at the time when I was there early of April 2014, they have many promo prices in the menu. We ordered their famous beijing duck and 6 other dishes. The food in served in large modern white plates and bowls...very nice looking. We ended up paying around 460 yuan for 1 whole duck, 1 whole chicken, 1 spicy pork rib (highly recommended...photos included), 1 vegetable, 1 mushroom, 1 fish and 1 soup. I'm not so particular about pricing as taste is more important but...it's cheap here!

The restaurant was hard to find due to some renovation downstairs. We went by one of the reviews that it was opposite the famous but disappointing Zen Pudong and found it at last. The roast duck was delicious, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The eggplant was also delicious. One of the customers who were from Hong kong, helped translate our order to the waitress. They also offered their taro filled sweet dumpling, very yummy. At least one English speaker at the restaurant would help their business.

I'm an American expat who had been working Luoyang and I found this great restaurant just around the corner from the Friendship Hotel where I was staying. The roast duck at Wangfu was as good as any I've ever had at the expensive places in Beijing or Shanghai, but only a fraction of the cost. I dinned alone my first time and was allowed to order 1/2 a duck which came with the typical thin pancakes, hoisin sauce, and sliced scallions. I also included a fresh crispy salad and cold Tsingtao beer and duck soup was brought at the end of the meal. The restaurant was clean and the service was decent although nobody seemed to speak English. Everything I ordered was great but the roast duck was especially delicious. My meal including the two large beers only set me back around 65 Yuan (around 10 US dollars). I have been back several times and now take my friends there as well. Wangfu restaurant is only a couple of blocks north of Peony Square and they have private rooms available for large or small groups. If you enjoy Peking style roast duck I highly recommend you give this restaurant a try.

We discovered this restaurant by accident and had such a wonderful experience that we would like to share it. We accidentally walked into this restaurant after a horror dining experience in the much awarded Zen Pu Tong restaurant across the road. The restaurant was nice looking with ornate Chinese decor. We ordered their specialty, the Peking Roast Duck. Apparently the restaurant sent their chefs to Beijing to learn this special culinary skill. Their duck was as good as those at the famous Quan Ju De Peking Duck restaurant in Beijing but at half the price. Our order of the duck also came with a huge bowl of very tasty complimentary duck soup. Besides the duck, their garlic deep fried pork ribs were fantastic; tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside with a great garlic flavour. It was a shame that we didn't get to try their dessert which looked good. We couldn't order them because they came only in a dozen and two of us just could not eat a dozen pastry after all the savoury dishes. The service here was impeccable; very rare for a Chinese restaurant. The waitresses were smartly dressed in traditional Chinese costume . They stood nearby in a non intrusive manner and were very alert to the customers' needs. Our tea cups were barely half empty before they would top them up. We had such a wonderful dining experience that we tipped both the waitresses attending to just 2 of us.
