The summerpalace is worth a visit, to walk around the grounds and see the emperors rooms, ornaments in a display, the pagoda and lake bridges. Would recommend if on a tour, to utilise the tour guide to explain various parts of the palace and the emperors court

This summer palace is cooling. A new expressway link it from Beijing and very pleasant ride throughout, all greeneries. You will passed by many tunnels and see secluded sections of Great Wall along the drive that normally tourists wont go or dont have access to those sections. Just look out for the wall along the ride or ask your driver. We are lucky to have a good driver that pointed out these Great Wall sections to us along the expressway.

The Palace is another huge place. The highlight for me is the mini bus ride to the top of the hill. Now I finally understood why it is such a favorite summer palace for the emperors. It is already cooling in the palace itself. It is even more cooling at the hill area. The mini bus will tour you around, stop for photo moments. Some locals choose to hike it, that will be a full day affair. You can see lotsa scenery from the top of the hill: nearby Potala Palace, the famous Drum Rock (Unweathered rock on top of a hill). Strongly recommended to take this detour up the hill area.
