Stayed here in mid autumn festival 2012! Staff were helpful! It was first holiday away in China! Food was amazing! Rented bikes to cycle everywhere we went! Dam near by where we could swim in! You do need to be careful with your valuables though and not leave where you cannot see them! They will get stolen! This is by the dam when swimming! Stayed here for 3 nights 4 days! 5 nights would have been better needed more time here! Can easily arrange tours from here! We got someone to picks is up from airport! Which helped!

A great place to bring your family and friends, and spends quality time out in the Chinese country. the place is so charming with real "rustic" look and feel, rooms are clean, nicely decorated and spacious. The kids were safe and free with a good size kids room and plenty of space outside. The staff so welcoming and helpful in any way/ we spent the Xmas week there with many westerners and everyone had great time, celebrating Xmas day with a special meal at the beautiful decorated restaurant. At our last day the managers even organized freshly baked chocolate birthday cake for my son...what else can you ask for:) Very happy Customers!

The Giggling Tree is an amazing place, with the most-helpful staff we've seen in 20 places we've stayed in China. The refurbished farmhouse retains much of the character of the original, unlike the cultural tendency to set aside old things. The food from the Giggling Tree kitchen is fantastic, with a wide variety of authentic options, including Dutch, German, and many Asian styles, averaging 30 Yuan for a hearty meal, enough to share if you're not famished. Our family (including teenagers) rented bicycles, with fairly new "Giant" bikes available for 20RMB/day. The Giggling Tree has a number of well-prepared photo packets available for checkout, showing turn-by-turn photos of the path to area attractions in the Karst mountains.

We visited in early January, and this is not the best season to visit the area. The Giggling Tree has modern 2-part heater/air-conditioner units, but the rooms are not insulated and have cracks letting in the cold air, helping guests be grateful for the hot water bottles provided to warm the bed. Mentioning the bed, the mattress was very hard from a Westerner's perspective. Of course, this isn't unusual in Asia, but we had hoped for a softer bed since the owners are from the Netherlands. The floor creaks on every step in the room, waking light sleepers at night.

I must repeat that the staff here, both the Dutch couple interns, and the local Chinese staff, are excellent. Staff at other hotels, even in Guangzhou, have had very limited English skills, but Giggling Tree staff are excellent in English, and very helpful. They helped arrange taxis and tickets for attractions without added commission fees.

The new swimming pool looks ready to use when the Spring weather allows. We would definitely return in a warmer season of the year, other than the hard mattress that didn't provide restful sleep. Two nights before we paid less in Guangzhou for a 4-star hotel and had excellent beds, so they can be found in China. But if you can sleep on a hard mattress, and enjoy culture more than luxury, you won't find a warmer reception than that of the staff at the Giggling Tree.

Thank you for your beautiful review.
After we read it we immediately checked in which room you were to check your mattrass as we were quite surprised to read you thought it was hard.
But you are absolutely right. The room you were in was still having one of the old mattrasses which indeed are much harder than our new ones.
We will close over the Springfestival to re-open again in March and than we will make sure the last few rooms with an old mattrass will be replaced as well.

If you like we live in China or if you’re traveling here and are looking for something else than the bustling mega cities or standard sights like the Great Wall or the terracotta army – you must go to Yangshou! And, unless you absolutely demand luxury accommodation – you must stay at the Giggling Tree!

Great value accommodation (simple but functional); beautiful houses; fantastic service; good food/drinks menu with something for everybody (including our spoiled western kids…) at good prices (20-40 for a meal); perfect location; and, since Jan 1, a nice little pool for the warm summer.

The reason why we don’t give a 5 star rating is the awful car service used by the hotel. Expensive, often late, quite unfriendly drivers and worst – some very unsafe cars! We have to hope that the good people at the Giggling Tree will fix this. But until then - please make sure that they only arrange cars with proper seats and safety belts.

Thank you for your wonderful words concerning our guesthouse. We are very happy to read you enjoyed your stay here.
We are very sorry to read you did not like the taxiservice.
I would like to give a few comments to this.
I agree with you the service is really expensive, compared to the rest of China. Unfortunately though taxidrivers are the ones making the prices and not us. It is just a service that we arrange them for our guests. Yangshuo is a very popular touristdestination and all the drivers in Yangshuo work together (especially in highseason) as the demand for taxis is huge and they all stick to similar prices.
We try our best to arrange taxis as good as possible and we have a contactperson to call whenever a problem occurred. Usually we are able to arrange cars with safetybelts if guests specifically ask for this. But not all cars in the Chinese countryside have this as their standard.
We have informed our contactperson about your complaint.. He will try to do a good job in the future, but also he is depending on many different drivers.
Thank you for your remarks. We hope to improve whatever we can.

Escaping urban China in search of a peaceful break in the countryside - we couldn't have found anywhere better. This beautifully converted traditional housing complex is a haven. There is nowhere better to base yourself to explore Yangshao and the spectacular limestone scenery of this World Heritage area. Great food, reasonable prices, really helpful and friendly staff and a very child-friendly atmosphere.

This place is a must for anyone in the Yangshuo area. I would come back here just to stay at this guesthouse as it is one of my top experiences in China. Set in a serene rural area outside of the city, we spent hours bicycling around and just enjoying the peace and quiet. The main courtyard was a nice, social gathering area any time of day. After dinner many people seemed to stay and chat over a few drinks and the courtyard looks even more beautiful at night with the lanterns. The delicious food also made it a perfect stay. We took a taxi to get here from the centre of town and had printed off the Chinese map from the website to avoid any confusion with the taxi driver.

I was in need of a respite form the fabulous intensity of the Chinese cities, so I took a punt on the Giggling tree. Turned out to be an excellent move. Lovely conversion of an old farm house, ideally placed just an easy bike ride from Yangshou , but far enough in to the country side to feel a sense rural China.
The rooms are simple but comfortable and clean, and the staff and management do a great job to make your stay relaxed with out too much fuss.
One thing I really liked was the clever home made photo guide books to the trails, paths and road of the district. These really get you out and about and very quickly. It would be very difficult to navigate with out them.
After a big day on the bike exploring the trails and back roads of this glorious region it was lovely to sit on the terrace, enjoy a beer and some food form the kitchen as the calm cool quite descends on this delightful, well run, relaxing little place. And it’s pretty good value!
