“Cental location but definitely in need of a face lift.”
Reviewed May 9, 2012

We visited the lovely Yangshuo in April along with 14 other photographers on a 25 day tour of
China. During this time we used 11 different hotels and this one was the worst by far. On the credit side of the ledger, I have to note that the hotel was well placed within easy walking distance of "West Street" and the river, adjacent to a park and very near to the city markets. Also on the credit side is the fact that the rooms were equipped with all the amenities one needs......they were just very tired and dated.
Our allocated room was comfortable but the curtains were drawn - we opened them and found a wall a metre away! We closed them and got used to all the lights being on when ever we were in the room. Colleagues whose room was on the other side of the corridor report that they looked down onto the very grubby roof covering the central courtyard where breakfast was served. We were able to observe rooms at the front of the hotel. These looked over the park, were large and may have been recently refurbished.
Skip cereals at breakfast there was plenty of other things on offer.
We loved Yangshuo and recommend visitors go "Impressions of Liu Sanjie, a spectacular evening show on water. We also recommend visiting the Yulong River and taking a bamboo raft down stream. If you visit the market in the morning you are in for a surprise - check out the meat department.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the park.

Our guide warned us that this would not be up to the standard we had been use to on our trip through China. What a pleasant surprise then to find a good clean room with all the amenities we needed. The staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts presented some of the best options we have had in the past 5 hotels.

I would stay here again and would recommend it to other travelers.

I visited this hotel as part of a tour group with TravelChina. This was the worst of the hotels. Accepting that there are limts on what can be expected, a mattress would be start. They are using the box springs without mattresses. Breakfast was rubbish, everything in the bread/ pastry line was stale. The organisation of the breakfast meant everyone was tripping over one another to get to food. No water, no internet, no TV. More travel companions were unluckier than me. They had king size rooms, which were small rooms with a king size beds shoved in.

One of the best hotels we stayed in. Rooms were spacious and very clean. Breakfast was excellent - by far the best we had in China. Location was perfect for the town being only a few minutes walk away.

Nice small hotel. Close to the action. We stayed as part of tour group. To go see the Impressions of Sister Liu Show. The show was a highlight of our trip to China [one of the highlights]

We spent two nights in this hotel as part of a 3 week tour of China. The first night was spent in room 216. This is a room to avoid. It is long, sparse and the window overlooks a small yard full of rubbish and a car park with small motor bikes that serve the police/army barracks just behind.
The lighting was so bad - probably to disquise how dirty and worn the room was - that it was impossible to even read a book. It was also next to the only lift in the hotel and above the kitchens. The lift smelled over poweringly of cooking at all times.
After complaining, we were moved to a higher floor to a smaller but much more comfortable room.
We arrived for breakfast at 8.30am to find that only our two places remained laid and we had to ask for the chef to return. There were piles of "clean" crockery stacked on the side table most with chipped rims.
As part of our local tour river rafting we were served lunch In the restaurant downstairs facing walls stained black by infiltrated rain water.
Luckily Yanshuo has many good restaurants and the hotel is only a short walk from the centre. In the street opposite we found a laundry, next door a small supermarket and, just outside the hotel, is a fruit and vegetable market which has been misrepresented in some publicity photos .
Obviously this is a hotel that caters mostly for groups on a budget and does not see the need for costly improvements!.

The rooms met basic needs, but it was by no means a 4 star hotel. Not super clean, but not smelly ar moldy. Upon arrival AC worked in only one of our two rooms. Meals eaten were adequate, but you wouldn't go there for dinner. Local food was much better than the western style (to be expected here).
Staff was very friendly and more than happy to help with anything we asked about.
View of the mountains out the back window was fabulous.

Room Tip: 3rd floor gets very warm because of the hot air rising in the central courtyard/dining area.
