The retreat is nicely located on the river bank of the picturesque Yulong river. We had a 'River View Superior King Room' and the view was truly breath-taking. The balcony was spacious and inviting to read a book and not go anywhere else. The rooms were nicely decorated though basic in nature but nicely matched with the surroundings. In the evening you got to be aware of mosquitos and thus bring enough repellent along. Beds: The mattresses are pretty thin.
Food/service: Very nice a la carte options for breakfast with yummy banana pancake and lots more. We enjoyed every afternoon the wonderfully prepared apple crumble cake (a must!) and ate every dinner at the hotel. In brief, their cooking is delicious and very good value for money. All the staff were very friendly and fluent in English. They clearly enjoyed working at the Mountain Retreat and this had a contagious effect on guests.
Location: Wonderfully on the river bank. 30 minutes foot walk to the next village with a few (basic) restaurants. One clearly has to get trips organized around one's stay at the Retreat. We had a private guide (http://www.winwintravels.com) for the entire three days and were pretty glad to have logistics taken care of.More
