“Noisy. Terrible!”
Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

Thought this hotel won tripadvisor 2012 thats why we stayed for 2 nights. falls far from expectation.

The Ugly:
1.Noisy - loud karoke noise right next door will keep u up all night

2. Broken Shower - hot water nearly burned me! It went boiling hot and freezing cold and shuts off to a drizzle after 10 minutes!!

3. Heating function from aircon does not work. Cold night kept my gf awake.

4. Wifi signal is extremely weak on 2 separate rooms ( cannot connect on bed area)

The good:
1. Convenient location - right next to beer bars
2. Friendly staff
3. They give you earplugs

Overall experience:
1. Terrible - Failed on the basics

Enjoyed our stay, in this smaller property. Nice lobby, friendly service. Clean, comfortable room. Near West street. Breakfast was included with our stay at a restaurant about 1 block away. Nice vegetarian restaurant adjacent to hotel. Laundramat across the street.

The street in front of the hotel is busy during the day, but quiet at night. Nearby streets behind hotel are quite active at night, but did not disturb us.

Room Tip: Think rooms at the back may be noisier.

When we checked in, we found it interesting that as soon as the power was activated in the room, the television automatically came on (blaring). In addition, the hotel provides earplugs in each room.

We quickly discovered this is because not only is Yangshuo City an extremely noisy place but the way this hotel (really more like a guest house) is set up lends itself to a lot of noise from open central tiled corridors with common meetings spaces on the first and second floor and an open atrium to the ceiling which means that whenever someone closes a door or people gather in these meeting areas to talk, laugh, play music or get drunk, you will hear every sound in the room no matter where you are located in the hotel.

If you are a young person looking for Party Central - this is the place for you. We checked out after one night ... enough said.

We stayed for 6 nights at the Yangshuo Magnolia and worried we had made a mistake. We were there during Golden Week and the street noise was so loud. As it turns out, the Magnolia was the perfect place to be! The second day the crowds lessened, the noise level greatly reduced, and we got colds. We thanked our lucky stars we were there: tissues on hand, the room was comfortable, and a GREAT restaurant and cafe on site. We sipped ginger tea from the cafe and ate bowls of hot soup from the restaurant. Every day we took walks in the neighborhood and plenty of other restaurants and shops were nearby. We felt this was a good home base for the 6 days and were happy to be there.

We stayed five nights at Magnolia Hotel ("Baiyulan" in Chinese as shown on Google Maps) during September 2013. The hotel arranged a car to pick us up at the Guilin airport and transport us to Yangshuo. We were warmly greeted upon arrival with tea and cold towels. The hotel upgraded us to the Imperial Suite much to our delight.

The Imperial Suite consists of a large bedroom with a comfortable queen sized bed and a large annexe with a huge round tub for two. His and hers silk gowns were provided. The rooms were furnished with old traditional wooden Chinese furniture made comfortable with cushions. The suite had a small safe, a large flat-screen TV and a mini bar. The bathroom was comparatively large and toiletries such as tooth brushes, tooth paste, soap, shampoo, body wash and combs were provided. Fresh fruit, tea and coffee were replenished every day.

The hotel is run by a bevy of girls who were quite efficient (I did not see any men except for the night guard). The front desk girls had good English communication skills. The hotel arranged for us to see the spectacular Liu Sanjie Impression show, the Cormorant fishing show, the Yulong River bamboo raft trip and the Li River raft cruise from Xingping to Yangdi and back. Though these cost us a little bit more, we had a private car to ourselves and were hassle free.

Our room was on the third floor adjacent to the Die Cui road. However, the street noise was quite low and it did not disturb us. The hotel is just round the corner at the end of West Street and we could, every now and then, catch the strains of music that drifted from the bars. But this did not cause a nuisance and we slept soundly. The hotel arranges western breakfasts at a cafe nearby at a discount.

Our overall experience at the hotel was very good - comfortable, unpretentious and relaxed. I would not hesitate to stay at Magnolia Hotel the next time I visit Yangshuo.

This hotel is centrally located in Yangshuo close to the restaurants, bars, markets and the river. The downside to this is the noise, but the hotel thoughtfully provided ear plugs which fixed the problem. Otherwise, expect traffic noise, shouting, general door banging and construction noise until about 1am and starting again at about 7am. Other hotels in the area are probably just the same though - you don't come to Yangshuo for a good nights sleep!

Service was very good - fast checkin and checkout. I emailed hotel after booking through Agoda to confirm and arrange airport pickup and they responded almost straight away. Reliable, friendly and efficient.

The biggest criticism was the comfort of the beds. They were hard (which is fine) but you could feel every spring sticking into you which was very uncomfortable. Luckily our room had two beds so we were able to use the duvet from the spare bed as extra padding. The hotel REALLY needs to change the beds though!

Our rooms were big, clean and comfortable. Nice hot shower and decent toiletries provided.

I would recommend the hotel for the location and service, but you will need the earplugs and be prepared for uncomfortable beds (although maybe other hotels in the area are just the same?)

Room Tip: Front rooms (213 and 214) seemed larger and lighter than others, but may also have more noise from t...

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and can't fault it. Maybe lack of an elevator. The aircon worked a treat on a sticky day and there was free WiFi. The toilets were clean and the rooms spacious. We enjoyed our stay.
