“Morning Sun Hotel Yangshuo”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

This would have been a delightful hotel with Asian decor, rather than contemporary decor, but the carpet was filthy!!! The room and the hotel was otherwise VERY clean! Housekeeppers were cleaning the stair rails and floors daily, and the bathroom was spotless. Bed comfortable and softer than most Chinese hotels, but I was very uncomfortable with the dirty carpet.

Close to the pedestrian West Street. However, this street has changed A LOT since I was there in 2006. It has become SOOOO loud with blaring music from the bars that now line West Street, and the shopping now caters to a younger crowd. Very disappointed, as I was so looking forward to my return to West Street.

I wish I could leave a better rating because everything was fine in this hotel except the carpet!

I have stayed in this Hotel over 10 times now. Yangshuo is the perfect location to take my friends to whenever they visit China to see me. I have been there many times and have tried a range of hotels and from my experience this is not only one of the most reasonably priced, but the comfiest, safest, and well positioned hotel I have stayed in at Yangshuo.

You will not be disappointed in this hotel. Pleasant English speaking staff who will go out of their way to help you make the experience all the more better and with everything Yangshuo town has to offer on your doorstep (yet two streets away from the nasty noisy bars and clubs) This is the perfect for hotel for couples, friends and families alike.

The hotel is right bang on the busy part of town. That means quite a lot of noise so if you want to be in the center but able to sleep easily select at least a room not facing the street. It is clean and tidy and quite recently renovated. The rooms are set around an internal courtyard. Take care to request a low floor room if needed as there is no lift.
Big bathtubs and showers are in both standard couple and balcony rooms.
There's good wifi signal everywhere and the speed is reasonable.
During warm periods is probably a waste to get a balcony.
The reception is okay but nothing extraordinary and they will provide basic assistance to get cruises, rides or rent bikes.
Overall is a good solution for anyone wishing to stay in the town centre.

The first time arriving from Shenzhen by "luxury night bus" (which took 14 hours instead of the foreseen 8, due to heavy traffic) it was in january. The hotel was stone cold. No heating in the rooms, but plenty of damp blankets. My room had a view at a 20 cm further stone wall. The bathroom had a bad smell. There was a western style toilet pot which would have been convenient if the drainage was OK. Which was not the fact. Products found their way between the pot and the tiles of the floor and disappeared in the drain well of the shower. Only large amounts of perfumed 'Airwick' created a reasonable atmosphere. I just stayed that one night, never to return. The restaurant I did not try. By the way, the lady of the reception - I think she was also the owner - was extremely kind and helpful.

Room Tip: Inspect the room before you rent it ! Rooms in the front are best but more expensive and noisy.

I am aware that people seem to love this hotel. Frankly it's one of the only games in town besides hostels. And it is there for the purpose of putting people up from the Li River Cruise. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are shrines.
The Hotel is on a busy street and is built in traditional style with an open staircase in the center. Our room was noisy, so we were glad we had brought ear plugs.
I was on the 3rd floor and my kids on the 4th. That's a lot of stairs (uh no there is no lift) to carry all our luggage. Thank Heavens my Grandson is strong and did it for me. The other problem we had was that the air conditioning was not working and since the staff doesn't speak English it was a bit of a hassle to get the problem across and get it fixed.

Room Tip: If you can get a room not facing the street you will have less noise.

Visited recently in May 2013. The hotel has very friendly and helpful staff who can speak english. It has wifi (although my only complaint is it is a little weak in the room). The hotel was located 2mins from the famous West street and so made it perfect as it was close to the action but did not come with the noise!
We upgrade to a balcony room for 100rmb a night more as the other room was too small for a couple to live comfortably for a week. It was well worth it. The toilet was fantastic, big bath and separate shower and it was very clean. I was very happy and it made our trip so much better as it was a great base. The girls on reception were also very helpful to book trips.
My only recommendation for improvement was that there was no safe in the room and the wifi was a little weak in the room we had - but that is nothing in the grand scheme of things!
If I have ever come back this will be wherewe are staying & I have already recommended to people who may be going.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony

This was the second hotel I stayed at in Yangshuo County, and I would return because the location is great - in the center of town, the beds are comfortable, and the bath tub is sheer luxury in a country where bathrooms are not a priority.
Yes, Dina, the young lady with braces at the front desk, is a gem, and she speaks enough English to help you. (Thank you, Dina! I hope you read this!)
Wi-fi is not good in the rooms towards the back of the hotel. There is no breakfast included. There is, however, an electric kettle for tea (something I love when traveling in Asia and NZ).

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front have better wi-fi but are noisier.
