There is little that is free in China, and this is one of them that is worth doing. The locals are out and about in this area, so you can enjoy seeing people playing instruments, playing games, and just being. The walk up to the pavilions is easy and nice. The stairs are behind the kid's arcade rides.
There are 360 degree views of the area at the top most spot. It's quite nice, especially since it's free.

This is a free park near the bus station and has a high hill with a little pagoda pavilion on top. It is a bit of a steep climb but very interesting to see the town and surrounding hills from the top.

It's worth a short visit, seeing the locals do their thing and walking to the top of the hill for the views .

After the disaster of Xi Jie it is time for some rest. The Yangshuo parks offers green trees, card playing elderly people and some musicians. Children play in a kindergarden and grandparents keep an eye on them. Here you may relax. Not to much noise, some cheap stalls for food and soft drinks. There is a pond full of lily's and some nice views on a huge and steep karst mountain.
A place to go !

No doubt that Yangshou park is in dire need of a massive makeover but it is a window into the true local culture. Perfectly safe but not for the faint of heart tourist, the park is a place where the real locals visit (and even live in some of the caves) spending their days playing cards, playing traditional Chinese instruments, singing karaoke, and entertaining their families, both young and very old. See past the warts and smells and take in the authentic Chinese culture and visit the magnificent lotus ponds. Be sure to bring your camera and relax on a shaded bench, preferably far away from the public toilets :>), prepared to be stared at, smile a lot and soon you will be communicating via "sign language" with a curious Yangshuo resident. Best free entertainment in Yangshuo.
