“Five-star service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

We were here in April and loved the place. Great laid-back vibe because of the super friendly and helpful staff . Rooms are more like a hotel than hostel, but very good value, although as others have mentionned, the bathroom is Chinese style. We loved the food. No msg but tasty! The seating areas are really nice. The Jacuzzi on the sister hotel, Village Retreat, just across the road is gorgeous! Highly recommend the massage. Location is fantastic. The girls arranged tours and transport for us. Totally recommend this place to relax and as a base to explore Yangshuo.

Thanks so much, we're glad you enjoyed your stay out in the countryside. We try and keep the hostel as laid back and relaxed as possible as we know many people who have been traveling china on the city circuit are often in need of some proper peace and quiet and need to take a breath of fresh air from busy city lifestyle. The rooms are indeed more like a hotel, a lucky run over from the previous owners which meant we got TV's, AC and even rain showers in every room, certainly not you standard setup from a small hostel in the countryside. The bathrooms are Chinese style, but we are in china and we often have Chinese guests, only fair to play by the local rules :) The Jacuzzi over at out sister hotel is a real treat watching the sunset whilst soaking any stress away is a unique experience in the area, and we've now managed to get a special deal for those on a tighter budget too :) Thanks again for your comments hopefully we will see you again!

We had a pretty good stay apart from the dorm wasn't that great, especially the bathroom which really needs to be redone. Water just gets everywhere and the overhead shower doesn't work. Little details like the light bulbs weren't put in.
Otherwise, we had a good stay. The breakfast was pretty good and portions were decent. Staff were really helpful especially Paul (the English guy) who really treated us with a personal touch. Website makes it look much better than it actually is though, so didn't quite meet our original expectations.

Run by a chatty and informative British ex-pat, the Cosy Garden provides everything travellers need to enjoy Yangshuo. Rooms were nice with very good ensuite bathrooms, and the pick-up from the bus station was prompt and very convenient.

The rooms were very good value, but the laundry, bike hire, food and tours/transport links were a bit more pricey. We were happy to pay for the convenience, but travellers on a tight budget should be aware of this. As this hotel is a little way out of town, the cost of these extras matters more because it is more difficult to organise other options. That said, these extras were extremely convenient, particularly the bike hire and the overnight tour to the Dragon's Backbone terraces.

Final note, some of the bikes are better than others. Check your tires and brakes before setting off.

My friend and I had a really lovely time staying at the Cosy Garden Inn over Qing Ming holiday. The owners and girls working at the front desk are extremely pleasant and helpful! They will help you book any activity you would like to do in Yangshuo with a smile and the food is great as well! This place was very cosy and warm, we loved our rooms and the lounge area. Would come back again!

We were quite disappointed to find that the cosy garden we had booked for was under renovation after our hike out of town with our backpacks on. Instead, we were directed to a neighbouring hotel, the village retreat. A more posh upscale place lacking in the charm we were going for. That was alright and we treated it like an upgrade, until the morning we were woken up by the neighbour's dreadful chainsaw at 8:30am, the motorcycle gangs drive out on their Harley's and the weekend Chinese tourist come flocking in and to top of the symphony of noise the renovations upstairs began. It was a very ironic situation to stay out of town and have that amount of noise wake us up. To be fair, the Dutch owner was very nice and offered us an apology plus tea on the house. But we still felt we deserved to be informed before that the place we booked for was not available.

Dear Janosch,

I totally agree with your review and I apologize again not to have informed you about the delay of the improvements at the Cosy garden that we could not open in time for your visit. Due to poor weather conditions and the busy renovation time here in Yangshuo we had to postpone our opening to the 15th of March and we hoped the free upgrade to one of our deluxe suites twice the size with a private balcony in our retreat opposite the Cosy Garden would be a nice treat but you are totally right that I should have informed you about this relocation before your arrival and I appreciate your honesty and motivation not to forget this in the future.

What I could not inform you about is that one of the farmers would decide to cut down 4 sick Pomelo trees in our backyard in the early morning after your late arrival which woke you and you girlfriend who was sick at that time and prevented you from the good rest our guests normally enjoy which was one of the main reason you chose our hostel for.

I appreciate that you still gave us an average rating after I explained you the situation and I apologized to you and I promise we will do our utmost best to prevent such experiences in the future. I truly hope your girlfriend has fully recovered now and you can enjoy the holiday you were hoping for.

For future guests I can say that all the sick trees have been cut now and that we can only hope the farmer will keep his promise to inform us from beforehand if he feels necessary to cause any noise around our garden and retreat. We heartily welcome you back in and around The Cosy Garden when we re-open our doors on the 16th of March.

All the best,
Gerd

We absolutely loved it at Cozy Garden!

It is perfectly situated just outside of the town - so you get away from the noisy streets and can enjoy the beautiful nature of Yangshuo, but so close that it only takes 5-10 minutes to bike to town to eat. And renting bikes is really cheap and even free in the evening.

The rooms are very nice and clean - not the biggest, but the price bigger than expected. And the view of the mountains is so amazing to wake up to. The rooms have an aircon, which, when we were there, was very neccesary. The beds were good.

There is plenty of room to relax in the pretty garden or inside in the lounge-like room. But be aware of mosqitoes (the girls at the reception have a mosqito-spray you can borrow). Internet is free and working and you can usually find a free computer.

The breakfast is great and we can recommend the ginger-tea for sore throats. The shakes and smoothies are also great! Drinking water is set up in the hallways - where you can fill your waterbottle. I thought this was a really great service since it saved us a couple of trips to the supermarket.

The best thing about this place, however, is the people working there. There is allways one at the reception who speaks really good english (not common in more expensive hotels) and they go out of their way to help you have a good stay! They can also arrange trips for you and give their honest opinions on what is good and what is more touristy. We went rock-climbing and it was so much fun both for a beginner and an advanced climber.

All in all a great place that I would recommend to anyone - and we ever come Yangshuo again, we know were to go!

PROS- hot hot shower as powerful as a waterfall, good location in peace, excellent bikes to rent cheaply (50y for 2 a day) and free from 6pm. great food wide selection available of western and chinese and really lovely staff. They can also arrange your Vietnam Visa for you! Nice garden terrace to enjoy and outside pool table.
CONS- pricy washing (15y a kg) walls are thin, beds kinda hard.

Yangshou in our opinion is fabulous for its serene scenery and great bike rides. For this reason you will want to get outof town. This location is both remote enough to avoid the rabble but handy enough still to pop out for dinner.  We Lunched at the gigglingtree and loved it. If you can handle remote you should live there, it is stunning.
