“Cozy indeed!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We recently stayed at the Tea Cozy in the incredibly beautiful Guilin area of southern China. Everything about our hotel stay was top notch: the room, the view, the grounds, the staff, the restaurant and the management. This is a boutique hotel--each room is furnished uniquely, with many stylish antique touches.
Set in a quieter area away from city traffic, the hotel is surrounded by gorgeous mountains. The management can also help you arrange touring activities in the area, with shuttle service to nearby Yangshuo.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody, and hope to stay there again as soon as possible!

As with other visitors we met there, we discovered the Tea Cozy through the reviews on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed. Having travelled through most provinces of China over the past two years, this is by far the nicest and most relaxing place we have stayed. Its setting, amidst rice paddies and impossibly pointy hills, 5km from Yangshuo, its comfortable rustic style and above all its amazingly friendly and helpful staff make it the ideal place to explore the delights of the Guilin region.

Built over 5 storeys (no lift) with 4-5 rooms on each level, each named after a variety of tea and roof terrace the hotel offers a range of room types and sizes. We had a king room with comfortable bed (rare in China), large wooden bath with separate shower and WC, equipped with kettle, tea making facilities, fridge, safe and small wardrobe, later moving to a twin room which was more than adequate and in someways had more useable space. The rooms are tastefully decorated, with back lit carved wall panels and Chinese furniture, flat screen TV and have panoramic windows offering a great outlook over the astounding countryside. They have a small balcony., and although we are in the countryside the road passing the hotel is surprisingly busy, with tour buses, cars and bikers. Fortunately the music playing through the panda speakers dotted around the garden and the artificial waterfall make the road noise less intrusive.

Food and drinks are available throughout the day an evening on an outside terrace, with a wide range of western and Chinese dishes, including many local specialities, all very reasonably priced. Good coffee rare outside of T1 cities is readily available, using beans from the adjoining Yunnan province.

A collection of cheeful, friendly, helpful staff is always at hand, all speak fluent English and are keen to provide assistance with luggage, transport, tours and recommend places to visit. The hotel has a stock of bicycles and tandems, all appear to be good nick and of a good standard, including some mountain bikes. Local tours can be arranged, using the hotel’s van or drivers, and although they don’t all speak much English, their driving skills and attitude is well above the norm. There is a complementary 3 times a day shuttle service into the city, and transfers to and from the airport (75km), river wharves and other attractions can be easily arranged at reasonable cost.

With its range of attractions, spectacular scenery and activities Yangshuo is one of the most rewarding places to visit in china for both domestic and foreign visitors, and if you don’t mind being a few kms out of the town, the Tea Cozy is an exceptional place to stay.

Room Tip: Upper level rooms have better views and less risk of disturbance if the people in the room above lik...

What a wonderful time we had at the Yangshou tea cozy. We wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel itself is lovely, about a 15min car ride to yangshou (the hotel provides a shuttle there and back 2x a day). Our room was beautiful very large with traditional furniture and an amazing view. We arranged a whole package with Richard before we left the UK which included bamboo rafting, kayaking, a cooking lesson, cycling, cave tour and visiting ancient villages. It was all so well done and real thought had gone into all of it. The guides we got were great and spoke good English.
All the staff were so helpful and friendly, Amy, Curry and Richard in particular made our stay so memorable.
The breakfast was very good, with lots of choice and very large portions. Food in general at the tea cozy was very good with a wide variety of options. You must try the ginger tea!
We also did a tea ceremony which was great fun!
I really can't recommend the tea cozy highly enough. We can't wait to come back!

Absolutely the best experience of our stay in China. Stuff is exceptional, really outstanding. Thank you Amy, Susi, Richard for your hospitality, help and making us feel at home. Your help with our medical emergency was greatly appreciated. Your hotel and your attention to the customer makes this hotel the best we stayed in for a long time. Location is absolutely stunning, with small villages and rice fields to explore. Food and service was great. I wish there would be more Cozy Teas in the world. Truly great hotel with great stuff. Thank you !!!

We wanted to take a break from touring the big cities of China, and this was a great place to do just that. Rustic, but very tasteful and comfortable, the Tea Cozy was definitely a good choice for us. Our room was on the fifth floor, overlooking the houses of the village and the fields worked daily by the local farmers. It was quite hot and humid at the end of May, so I didn't spend as much time on the small balcony as I would have liked.

The staff (especially Amy) were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. If you're up for a bit of a strenuous adventure, ride one of their bikes the launching spot for the bamboo raft trips down the Yulong River. The scenery is spectacular. Amy recommended this to us, and we were so glad we took her advice!

We had breakfast and dinner at the Tea Cozy each day, and it was always excellent. There is no reason to go into town for dinner. You won't find better food.

If you want to be away from the tourist crowds of Yangshuo, but be close enough to easily enjoy the sights of this amazing area, the Tea Cozy is a perfect option.

Thank you, Amy, and the rest of the staff, for making our visit so memorable!

Room Tip: Request a quiet room away from the street.

Great looking hotel with an idyllic setting next to some paddy fields. I can't speak highly enough about the service we received during our stay. Everyone at the hotel wanted to help and make sure our stay was perfect. The staff organised several local trips and the bike hire was reasonably priced. The food choice was varied and the quality was second to none. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable.

My only recommendation would be to request a room on a high floor as there was some noise at night from the road or restaurant.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back or higher floors

Dear Emma and Angus, Thanks very much for your clear and sincere review. We are so happy that you have enjoyed your stay here at Tea Cozy. On that night, it's one of our costumer's birthday that i think that is why at downstairs a bit noisy to you. we were very sorry about it, but normally it's quiet at night, only some frog voice in the fields around. Anyway, thanks a lot for your positive comments that should be improved for our future guests. We sincerely welcome you back to Tea Cozy one day.

We stayed here in early May of this year and not only was the hotel spectacular, but the customer service was absolutely out of this world. There was a mixup with our ferry transfer and Curry, one of the owners, came out personally and found us to bring us to the hotel. All of the staff from top to bottom went completely out of their ways to help us out in any situation and make our stay the best it could possibly be. They even gave us a free cell phone to use when we went to town so that we could call the hotel to pick us up (at no charge!)

As for the hotel itself, It was spectacular. An absolutely stunning setting a bit out of town, which made for great evenings enjoying our time on the patio and listening to the frogs outside. There are many bike paths nearby and beautiful scenery, and the hotel has bikes you can rent to make the most of it.

Our room was spotless, beautiful and decorated amazingly with great attention to detail. It felt very rustic and modern at the same time. Our room had a great wooden tub overlooking some rice fields next door, and the patio was one of our favorite places to spend our time. The grounds of the hotel are extremely well landscaped and very serene.

As I mentioned, the hotel has all the amenities you need. Bike rental, free car shuttles to town, and you can book tours through the front desk (and yes, they were a bit pricey sometimes, but worth it for what you get!). They have an in-room masseuse available, and their restaurant downstairs was one of the best we experienced in China. The crispy duck was fantastic!

I really can't recommend this place enough if you plan to visit Yangshuo, it's probably the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Curry was absolutely great to deal with and everyone in the hotel made the stay very special.

Room Tip: The higher up you go, the better the view!
