We booked this hotel after having read the other tripadvisor reviews and had high hopes for our stay. As stated in the previous reviews, everyone who worked at the hotel was lovely and went out of their way to help us plan activities and provide recommendations. The service is excellent and the hotel is furnished well.

However, we didn't expect the inconvenience of the location - the hotel is about 15 mins drive from Yangshuo and there wasn't much around for dining options. For those traveling on a budget, staying in Yangshuo proper is much more convenient as restaurants and the bus terminus are within walking distance. Spending 30-40 RMB on cabs back and forth for meals can add up, and the public buses you take into town are hit or miss in terms of how full they were. The hotel is in somewhat rustic settings and electricity outages (although we were assured does not happen often) happened twice during our 3 day stay, making for some cold nights.

Overall, decent hotel but we were dissapointed with the location and expected more for the price (inflated for CNY).

Dear Guest, it was very nice to have you stay with us during the Chinese Lunar New Year. Obviously the Lunar New Year did bring you some bad experiences, and we felt so sorry about that. For the inconvenient location, actually people like us is because of our located in village away from noisy downtow and our surrounded by Karsts. Most of the reviews in Tripadvisor for our hotel did mention that. We also mentioned location on our website. However, based on your comment, we do want to improve ourselves and mention the location again in the email in future. During the Lunar New Year, all markets are closed for the most important vacation for Chinese like Western Christmas. So we are not able to prepare fresh food for you and make you travel to downtown for meal. We feel so sorry and decide to close for Chinese Lunar New Year in future. As for the power off, it was because of the local town's electricity overloaded caused by New Year vacation for whcih was nothing we could do. But, we did feel sorry to you.

My husband and I thought this hotel was a great find on our journey through Southern China. We picked it because of the comments on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. It's small, maybe 12 or so rooms. It's just been open for 4 months or so and so is like new. The owner Jerry has gone to great lengths to create comfortable rooms with as many hand made fixtures as possible. The sink is carved from stone, the light fixtures are made of bamboo etc.. It's very creative. The bed was a futon style mattress and was very comfy. Nice hot shower, a heater in the room and even an extra one in the shower to keep you warm while bathing. We really appreciated this because there was an unfortunate cold snap going through while we were there. We had nice balcony accessed through real wood doors with a stunning view of those incredible kasks. On arrival they treated us to some delicious ginger tea, which we enjoyed by the fire. They will happily make breakfast and dinner if you ask, but we didn't get around to that.
The location is 10 or 15 min cab ride (30rmb or $5) out side of Yanghsuo surrounded by amazing countryside. We went for a walk up the river that was unforgettable. The rate was excellent ended up being around $30 per night, but it was very low season and with the weather, there were few tourists. So imagine it would be more. Jerry and his staff went to great lengths to help us with our lack of Chinese and wrote out instructions for us to give to taxi drivers and ticket agents in Chinese which greatly assisted us as we made our way to Hanoi from Yangshuo - and we are most thankful for. The hotel is impeccably clean and well run by good folks. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you choose this hotel

Room Tip: We chose the 3rd floor for the best views

We stayed for four nights with our business team. The Phoenix Pagoda Fonglou retreat is in an idyllic location, a fun bike ride from rock-climbing and zip-lining recreation. The resort is only a few km out of the town of Yangshou, with easy car access. Staying out of town, away from the hub-bub of Yangshou, is a nice change. The vibe of the Phoenix Pagoda is unique and the staff friendly, welcoming and accomodating. Waking up to ducks quacking across the street was fun.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors have great little balconies for relaxing and looking at the mountains of Guilin.

We stayed here for 4 days in November. The staff were very helpful, the food was great and the views were fantastic. Breakfast on the roof was particularly good surrounded by the magnificent scenery. The hotel is tastefully decorated with local craftwork.Sitting on the balcony watching the locals going about there work was inspiring. We would definately stay here again. pbe

This was one of our last stops in a 5 week trip through china and definately one of the highlights. The hotel is very comfortable with great views and really atmosphere. The staff were able to organise all of our travel plans and activities, oh and the food was good also. Would definately stay here again and recommend to others.
