The show was a big productions with hundreds of actors and fishermen involved; and the backdrop was the naturally scenery of the Li River, so I would say that it was one of the best performances that I had seen in China.
There are 3 types of tickets - Class A tickets (the locals called those Presidential Seats) RMB 680 with a private room, Class A tickets RMB 480 (Presidential Seats with a partition) and Ordinary tickets RMB 220. The class A tickets are right at the back, and at the top part of the theatre. Apart from some free snacks and drinks, the free usage of their binoculars and slightly more spacious room, the expensive class A tickets is not really worth it. The fact that you need a binoculars meant that the expensive seats are really too far away. The better seats are actually right in front of the stage and they are the ordinary seats!

We went on an evening when it was raining hard! The entire audience was encased in free "raincoats" which were basically dry-cleaning bags with arms. We couldn't hear the show because of the people talking loudly around us, and in front of us were rows on lit-up phones and tablets for recording. We also had a terrible time getting there -- we were told to meet at the KFC in Yangshuo and the non-English speaking guide was 10 minutes late, then crowded 15 of us into an 8 person van for the ride to the show. The guide gave us our tickets, and left us to figure out where to walk and what section we were in. I was prepared to hate everything about the experience, but the show itself is AMAZING! They light up entire mountains, on cue, that are 3 kilometers away. Every act took my breath away, and the beauty of the dancing and the special effects leaves one wondering "how did they do that?" I am determined to buy the DVD and hear everything I missed. There is nothing else like it, and you really shouldn't leave the area without giving it a try. But be very careful how you book your tickets! We were given the wrong instructions for our bus back to Guilin, then left in a strange parking lot after being literally pushed off one bus in Guilin and onto another. Turned out we were only a block from our hotel, but at midnight in the dark where we couldn't communicate, we were a bit scared! Ask a few questions at your hotel when purchasing the tickets, the most important being, "who will give me my tickets? Will he or she speak English?" Since there is no roof, I would avoid a rainy day.

With the karst peaks used as a backdrop to the performance which takes place on the river, it could not be engrossing. Not really sure what the performance represented, but that didn't matter. We were spellbound by the performance, performers and props. A great visual spectacle, not to be missed.

We sat in the B1 seats - one short of the VIP (box) seats - and very impressive. The only odd bit was our 10 year daughter was allocated a 'child' seat - so she had to sit in front of us (mum, dad, elder 13 year sister on our B1 seats). No idea what was going on, but the show is spectacular - enhanced by the lighting of the local Karst hills. Wonderfully chaotic ticket process too - but worked (somehow, but hey, this IS China).

This was a very impressive performance and the precision dancing and light show made it worth the while to watch even though I could not understand a word spoken or sung. The mountains in the background were not visible as the sky was quite cloudy. No rain, fortunately.

I've seen light shows elsewhere and this one is among the top three! Excellent!

Exiting the event was also a spectacle to behold. General chaos as everyone must exit via a single lane, narrow road. I had no issues with mosquitos, fortunately, or any other crawling or flying insects.
