Prior to coming to Yangshuo, I had never heard of this show and was very skeptical when our guide suggested it but thought I'd go along with it. Little did I know my mind was about to be blown! The show is choreographed by Zhang Yimou who many Westerners will remember as the director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. This show had the same magic of hundreds of actors moving in unison with mesmerizing effects. There is a plot to the show and it is based off a movie but I will admit that I only had a vague understanding of what was going on but this did not take away from the magic of the show one bit.
A note on what tickets to buy: the cheapest or "C" tickets give you seats with decent views but your seat has essentially no back at all which can become a bit uncomfortable over the course of the show. We went for the next level up "B2" tickets and had great views and comfortable seats. I did not see much value in getting any better tickets than these.
