Where else on the globe does one sit in an outdoor theatre with 3000+ others to be entertained by a cast of over 600 that uses a natural river, it's shores and illumination of the surrounding mountains in an awe inspiring choreographed musical after dark light show of a classic Chinese story? One cannot fail to be impressed.
Weather plays a role in the enjoyment of any outdoor event, rain will decrease one's enjoyment.
The ticket prices are not inexpensive, but there are many performers to be paid. Not only do the seats become more comfortable, but also the viewing perspective is improved with the more expensive seats higher up, and farther back. Even the front row seats are some kilometers from the stage backdrop of this performance (illuminated mountains down the valley!) - so spend what you can for the improved seats.
You can visit Yanshuo without seeing this, but you would be among the few who don't. It's not like any show elsewhere, definately a one of a kind. I would recommend making time for it.
