Many Westerners coming and going, so it's easy to meet and chat. Staff is friendly and helpful. They have bed heaters! Loved that! The little huts for sitting outside are spacious with electrical outlets and fans. Complimentary bottles of water offered daily. Didn't like that the shower is basically over the toilet so after showering the toilet and floor at the sink are all wet. They do put rubber slippers in the bathroom but I'm OCD so I have issues using those. All power is cut when you leave the room because you remove the key card and you're only given one so charge electronics smartly. Still, reasonable price and comfortable stay.

This place is set off in the countryside, but near other buildings, and a short drive from Yangshuo town. It is a short walk from the river. They have really good food, and the guides they assigned us for our day tours were cheap and very professional. They were also great with our small children. We had a wonderful time with both of them on our cycling tour of Moon Hill, bamboo rafting experience on the Yulong River, the Golden Water Cave, and tours of tea plantations and Guilin. The room was comfortable, and the grounds are excellent with a ping pong table, a fountain, and little garden. I recommend renting a bike from them and just cruising around. Fun times.

This hotel shows up near the top of Trip Adviser reports and Agoda booking site as a top rated hotel. Bear in mind that this should not be presumed to mean that the hotel is a 5 star Hotel. It isn't. If you want a luxury hotel experience along the lines of a Sofitel or Grand Hyatt you would want to look elsewhere. If you are a backpacker looking for a hostel experience this also would not be where you''d want to be. So if you are looking for a place with easy access to the village (free shuttle or 30 minute scenic walk) and easy access to the other attractions of Yangshuo this very well might be your place. Beds are comfortable, room we had was spacious, aside from some construction during the day the area was super quiet and peaceful with great views. Charming is the word I would use. Staff speaks English and are helpful in suggesting activities. Restaurant for dinner was good but be aware that the spicy chicken is super spicy (Although we were warned and thought we could handle it - we were wrong :-) ). We got the Family Hot Tup room. The hot easily big enough for two people was great although I will warn that it takes a long time to fill it. I'd also advise that if you have children in it that there appears to be one water intake and if blocked the suction seems quite high.. Might be dangerous for a child (nightmare stories in the US about such things). Not a problem just do be aware. The room had TV which we didn't use a heat pump type aircon/heater and electric blanket. The furniture as others have mentioned could be described as antique/classic European or depending on perspective maybe old and eclectic We chose to see it as anitique classic and thought it added to the room. The hotel felt empty in the off season, like we were the only ones there... (we weren't but it seemed that way). The shuttle in the off-season was running every 1/2 hour but only on demand given the off-season. We used it to get into town once and it was efficient and easy but had to wait 20 minutes for the scheduled time. Transfer from the GongCheng train station was arranged by the hotel and was easy and a pleasant ride. We booked a bamboo raft ride thru the hotel front desk. and rented bikes to get to the raft trip. The bikes were good... They had better ones but said we couldn't use those for the bamboo raft trip. They said we couldn't use the good bikes because they transport the bikes via truck to the end of the ride. Clearly when we finished the ride this made sense as our bikes appeared as if they might have been thrown off the truck. The staff made sure the bike tires had plenty of air in them which I'm sure was also a necessary precaution given the limited use of the off season. The price of the Bamboo raft trip was $250 RMB for the two of us. Others have suggested that they might have been able to get a better deal from the touts in town.. That might or might not be true but the hotel gave us a map, directions and a cellphone in case we had trouble or got lost and called ahead to make sure they knew we were coming so even *IF* we could have negotiated a better price I think you get what you pay for. Biking to the raft trip was described as being 15KM and in the end I think it might have been more like 7 or 8. The ride there was a bit of an adventure as you ride pretty much thru the middle of Yangshuo. We loved that because we felt very much like locals and even had very local food on the way there. However, if you are unsure about your bike skills or are directionally challenged then perhaps arranging transport there is a better option. The trip back to Yangshuo was easy along dedicated bike paths. We even ended up riding our bikes back to the hotel after dark using the flashlight on our cellphone and didn't feel unsafe or worried about run over by cars since the way back along the river is quiet. Be warned however much of it is cobblestone paved. Overall we enjoyed our stay. The only negative is that it is a wee bit further from the village than we would otherwise have chosen but given all the other advantages it more than makes up for it in charm, helpfulness and peacefulness.

Because of the rave reviews, I expected good service and got more than anticipated. The star of the hotel comes from it's friendly staff (who speaks great English) and it's beautiful location. Although not that close to the West Street, stay here if you prefer quiet nights and waking up to beautiful scenery. Their breakfast is delicious! I would have stayed for a week and explored more utilizing their rental bikes. Ask their staff for their travel recommendations. You won't regret staying here~

We had a great time at YVR. The location is a nice walk from the city center (there is a free shuttle if you want). We enjoyed walking by the river side and heading to our quiet retreat. Our room had nice mountain views as well.
Bathroom/shower was not my favorite. Great view, but not super functional. At least our room, the shower and toilet were in one space. While the view was great, I didn't want everyone to see me. The curtains were big, dark and smelled mildewy due to the constant shower water. Rather strange.
Aside from that, everything was lovely! The food-Chinese and Western were both tasty. Highly recommend the Dragon Eggplant! They also had clearly labeled vegetarian items, which is hard to find in pork-friendly places. Fantastic views from the roof as well.
Staff was incredibly friend and helpful. They provided maps and detailed instructions for every type of adventure you wanted. Scooters for rent for 150/day, which was our best investment of the trip. We went everywhere!
