We stayed at this hotel one night after taking the cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo. The hotel is great, recently built still have few areas to be completed like the Swimming Pool for instance, once all that is done it will be a paradise.
Rooms are clean, big bed, modern, nice amenities and the environment is very Zen with minimalistic decoration, great service and beautiful views.
The location is out of the town centre which for us was great as you have the great views. It is also conveniently located for everything you have to do in Yangshuo, caves are just very close by, the Bamboo rafting experience, the eternal Flowers garden (beautiful to go and have a photo session with the scenery)
The centre is just about 30 min by bike which they lend you for free and the rest of the attractions are just few minutes away by bike from the hotel.
Finding the hotel is a bit tricky as you need to go around small streets and it is somehow hidden but worthy. Make sure you have the address in Chinese to show to the driver.
My only suggestion will be to re-think the breakfast experience. I would rather have a buffet breakfast where you can pick and mix. Instead they ask you to pick from 4 set breakfast menus the night before which offer different options; however, when we arrived in the morning to the also beautifully decorated restaurant we had to wait more than 30 min to get our breakfast as they were busy and a bit overwhelmed despite of being a small hotel and not a massive number of guests. I think they could make it more enjoyable for guest and easier for them to have a buffet and you help yourself.

We just stayed with two families in deluxe family rooms which are slightly bigger, have tatami beds and a small cute surprise for the kids
the hotel is clean and crisp, very contemporary
it is family run, so not perfect in the service, but everyone tries to accommodate your needs with a smile and sometimes with a hug!
the hotel is slightly off the city ina very tranquil area and with great views on the hiils
definitely recommended

Room Tip: for families take the slightly bigger deluxe family rooms

Situated in a small village close to the Yulong River. It is easy to navigate to and from on e-bike or motorized scooter. The hotel offers multiple breakfasts and also local cuisine. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently surrounded but small fields/farms and the views are unobstructed by other buildings. The pool was still not open during our stay in mid-late May. Definitely a nice place to stay to relax and explore the local mountains.

The rooms and facilities are clean and well appointed. I'm fairly sure all rooms face the mountain with beautiful views.

The staff were very polite and professional. Prices are reasonable. The kitchen and meals were all very good taste.

The hotel is within an old neighborhood and a little tricky to find.

I would again stay here, perhaps spend more time doing nothing. Can rent scooters and it's a lot of fun.

My partner and I booked three nights at Zen Garden to celebrate our anniversary. We chose this hotel based on the website and description of services we thought we would be able to enjoy during our stay. Unfortunately, our stay at the hotel was very different to what we expected to receive.

Our main issue is that Zen Garden was unable to provide many of the services and features advertised on their website. The website presents the hotel as a fully functional, luxury retreat. If we'd known the hotel was so newly open and unable to accommodate guests with the advertised features, then we'd be able to understand and manage our expectations.

Pool and sun deck - still under construction, rooftop - no furniture and unusable, spa - not available, complimentary outdoor yoga class - not available, complimentary tea and coffee in rooms - kettle and cup but no tea or coffee available, TV and DVD player in every room - present in our first room but not in our second room. Construction also surrounds the hotel. The lift didn't work when we were first taken to our room and the receptionist had to get a second card because the first door card wouldn't work.

The cleanliness of the hotel itself could also have been improved. During our stay, the hallways, corridors and restaurant floors were filthy. Our hotel room contained a large, noticeable stain on the wall from where someone had thrown something in the bin but had missed and hit the wall. Our room was also cleaned while we were out for the day but the cleaner left dirty mugs in our room with the blinds closed.

We ate dinner at the restaurant on the first night. The food was nice but 6RMB was added to our bill at the end for the two glasses of water we had from the water dispenser in the restaurant, which seemed a bit odd. We also ate breakfast at the restaurant on all three mornings. Guests are given the option of four different style breakfasts (Western, Chinese, Middle Eastern and a fourth option I cannot recall.) My Western breakfast of muesli, fruit and yoghurt was nice but my partner's choice of breakfast looked and tasted pre-cooked. The fried eggs, vegetables and fruit were all cold, rubbery and tasted like they'd been cooked a while ago. This was confirmed on the second morning when we saw a tower of fried eggs sitting on the counter in the breakfast area. We asked for freshly cooked eggs and the restaurant staff were able to accommodate.

A big positive are the receptionists. They were incredibly nice and very helpful where possible. Unfortunately, there was no manager on site during our stay to speak to us when we first raised an issue, meaning the receptionists are in the awkward position of having to repeatedly tell guests 'we're sorry - but it's unavailable'. There are two managers, one Western and one Chinese and we were told we could email the manager. I had emailed the Western manager a week or two prior to our arrival seeking assistance to organize a nice evening for the anniversary but received no response back after the manager's initial email reply. We emailed the Western manager after our first night at the hotel but to date, still have not received a response. The Chinese manager arrived on the morning of our check out and apologized but it was still disappointing to not have any communication from management about our issues until our stay was over.

After our first night, we were moved to another room by the receptionist for our trouble. Both rooms we stayed in were very comfortable. The beds are incredibly comfy and the views from the rooms are spectacular. The rooms were the best part of the hotel.

Zen Garden has a lot of potential to be a fantastic stay. Unfortunately, a lack of communication and oversight from management to support the staff and ensure the facilities were up to standard and available for use, meant our stay at Zen Garden was rather underwhelming and very different to what was promised on the website. We do not believe this hotel should be rated 5 stars if so many of the services are unable to be provided, especially when the hotel advertises itself as being complete and charges accordingly.

Dear Zeo,

I am very sorry that you were not informed about our pool opening season, which start at mid May, yes indeed we have just newly opened the resort and the sun deck are not ready yet as well as the rooftop furniture is not in place as this is the winter and rainy season - we are truly sorry you got a different experience from what you expected but we would be fully ready with the pool and decks for the season (next month).

We really hope you would consider coming again on your next visit when all the areas are fully operational.

Yours truly,
Yangshuo Zen Garden Resort
