i stay many times in that hotel, in the beginning it was a very good hotel,my last comments i give in june 2010, but inthelast 1,5years it become bad, the look is very used, only some renovations have been done, food becomes worst, service did not improve, if you use room service and you cannot speak chinese you never know what you will get, in the restaurant it looks not so clean, people smokes everywhere, nobody respect nonsmoking signes, and the stuff do not say anythink
Price goes up to fast and quality goes down more fast

After one night in Xiamen, I spent two nights at the Quanzhou Hotel with my mother. The fast rapid train or 'Dong Che' from Xiamen was spacious, new and clean. Journey is only 45 minutes from Xiamen Station, however, do provide for at least 30-40 minutes of extra time for ticket queues - very irritating!

Upon arrival, there was a long line of taxis waiting for passengers and I had made the mistake of not negotiating when our driver asked for RMB20 for each person - the correct fare should be only about RMB20 and not RMB40 to the Quanzhou Hotel!

Upon arrival at the Quanzhou Hotel, we were brought to our higher floor, non-smoking suite, room 1005 in the Nan Xin Building. The Hotel has yet another older building, Dong Hui Building. This older building also has an extension block, which faces directly onto the carpark of the Hotel and a large Karaoke and Sauna place.

Rooms in the Nan Xin Building are purportedly newer and thus costs more. Our suite has its separated sitting area with nicely decorated with stuccoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, moulded doors and wardrobes - the kind of Neo-Classical theme that I so admire and loved, great! Waiting for us in the suite was a plate of complimentary fruits and some fresh Carnation flowers - nice touches!

Bathroom is not huge but it does have a tub and a separated shower cubicle. There is even a powder room in the sitting area, however, its WC did not flush properly a few times and repairmen were fast in getting it repaired. The roll away bed that I had added for myself was of average comfort, not the best nor the worst in this trip of 3 hotels.

In the daytime, even on the 10th floor with the suite not facing directly onto the street, there was still minimal noises from cars. But in the night, it was blissfully quiet for a good night's sleep. The 2 TVs has about 86 channels, with CNN and HBO also available, so you are never bored while in the room.

This 5 star Hotel has a total of 4 restaurants and we had tried its Thai one at the Dong Hui Building. Quality was quite good, however, prices tend to be on the higher side, even higher than the Wyndham in Xiamen. Breakfast, however, was both good in quality as well as choices. We easily could have different varieties for the two mornings we were there.

Staff were all friendly and efficient. Booked a car with driver through its Business Centre, RMB500 for 5 hours to Wing Choon county - the main reason for coming to Quanzhou is to find my mother's roots. The journey was only 40 minutes the town centre and yet another 20 minutes to the Xin Kuay village. All in all, we did have a great trip to Wing Choon!

The Hotel is located very near the Zhongsun Lu, a long street full of clothing stores. Not much eateries I must say. But directly opposite the Hotel is a small eatery selling beef products but we prefer yet another Restaurant (walk opposite, walk right and turn left again) which sells rice, porridge and ready cooked food - nice, cheap and hygienic.

While in Quanzhou, do visit Kaiyuan Si, Xihu and the area near the ancient Mosque/Guandi Temple. Overall, we did prefer laid back and beautiful Quanzhou more than Xiamen. But of course, being a smaller city, shopping is still better in Xiamen. But our stay at the 5 star Quanzhou Hotel still outshines the two Hotels that we have stayed in Xiamen - the Lujiang Harbourview and the Wyndham (see these reviews).

There is 2 buildings to this hotel. and the main building has a relatively spacious reception, restaurant downstairs and upstairs.

My colleagues stay at this hotel every time they visit China (2-3 times a year) and they love it!

This hotel restaurant is used frequently for weddings, so it is rather busy with lots of people walking around and wedding decorations.

The rooms are a good size, very comfortable bed, very nice french (i think) style decor, and bathroom. There is a large window that looks into the bathroom, which is ok as I stayed on my own but I'm not sure i'd be so comfortable if my partner could see me on the toilet/shower!

On the whole it was my favourite hotel we stayed in out of the 5 on our trip.

We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening, the buffet is very good, has a great choice, you choose the meats/noodles etc and the chef cook the food in front of you!.. great choice of mini desserts, they also had a 'guess the cost of...' and we won a bottle of wine!

Also i had left my glasses in the room, and the attendant ran after us to return them!

Stayed for one night, the hotel is quit central.
Walking into the room, you find gold paint everywhere.. very different. This hotel is the only one in China, that have an arrow for Mecca.
The bed are hard, like most in China. Ask for an extra duvet , and then sleep on one. The Chinese restaurant , serves good food, and one of the waitress speaks English.
There is a lot to see in Quanzhou, an interesting town.

The hotel is actually very nice and the food in the restaurant was ok for an American traveler. The bed felt like a board, but was comfortable enough and the room was decorated nicely. The hotel is in a small shopping area, but I got there late and didn't have time to get out and walk around. The staff were friendly. I sat in one of the desk chairs and the leg snapped off. I told the hotel people about this as I checked out and they told me that I had to buy a new chair. We settled on paying for the chair to be repaired for 100 rmb. Normally I would have argued more about paying at all, but it was getting frustrating as they didn't see that cheap furniture that broke when you sit in it as their liability and not mine. But, as I said, it was generally a good hotel for a small town in China.
