“Nothing Special!”

This is basically a tourist area. Its a long street filled with stores, street vendors and restaurants.
We were dropped off here from a tour and spent 3 hours walking around - which is much more time than you need. An hour at the most is more than enough.

We stopped for supper and a beer. It has some good restaurants in one section of the street. They are all westernized and have some western food and beer ( which is always nice to see)

The store and markets are repetitive and nothing special. Its mostly tourist trinkets and souvenirs.

At night the street lights up with lanterns and stores buzzing with people. Its interesting to see, but defiantly a "been there done that" type of experience. Especially since we spent nearly a month in China and every town, city and village had a similar type street.

Looks like it was a nice town at one time but has become touristy with so many shops, pretty much selling the same things you find in other "ancient towns." The better time to see it is in the morning before the town wakes up and in the evening when things are closing and the crowds go away. You can have a nice stroll and appreciate the ancient architecture, but sadly the street is losing it's authenticity.

Our hotel was on the Old Street which was great. We were able to wander around the Old Street each night. Lots of different shops and ok resturants. Kind of reminded me of Hoi An (Vietnam) but more geniune.

Our guide told us the ancient street curves so that you can not see from one end to the other directly, because it is bad Feng Shue (sp.?). It is very commercial but turn off to admire the smaller streets.
