“Excellent hotel”

If you have traveled much in China, you have learned that tourist hotels in major scenic destinations are often among the worst of the worst because they cater to large groups and don't care about a private tourist who will probably never be back.

This hotel is one of the exceptions to that rule. It is clean and modern and service is top notch. It's in Huangshan City, near Tunxi old town. That means it's an hour or so from Yellow Mountain itself. Not a problem. Small buses run throughout the day for 16 Yuan. Leave from the bus station or train station.

City bus stops across the street and will take you into Tunxi for shopping; price 1 Yuan. Takes 5 minutes or less.

Big luxurious rooms, decent Chinese breakfast. It was a welcome rest. Highly recommended.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights to attend a workshop. While the hotel does not look like much from the outside, the inside is luxurious and spacious. The room comes with full amenities and is clean. My room faces the river and has a great view.

The hotel is only 10 minutes away from the airport, and is 15 minutes walk away from the old town of Tunxi, a great place for a walkabout with delicious food and amazing architecture from as far back as the Song dynasty.

The service at the hotel is excellent. One of my colleague was telling us about her heater conditions. A bellboy overhead us, and immediately offer to help.

The only complains I have for this hotel is (i) poor sound proving -- we can hear traffic from the road and people talking outside our rooms clearly, (ii) lack of in-room Wifi (although Ethernet connection is provided, and (iii) no indoor pathway from the hotel to the adjacent meeting rooms (make a difference during cold winter).

After a late evening flight, it took just 10 minutes to arrive at this hotel.
The lobby area had a luxurious feel and the room was great. The photo of the rooms posted for this hotel does not do justice. It was really nice in the room. It was spacious and had a separate desk area/kettle area. The bathroom was large and had a separate tub and shower.
There was marble used throughout the bathroom. Towels were plentiful, clean and fluffy.

Breakfast at the hotel was good. Good selection of assorted items.

We stayed here overnight after a late flight in from Chengdu. It was essentially a pit stop for us before we headed up Yellow Mountain. But what a nice surprise the hotel was. Situated on the river it was a short 10 min drive from the airport, which was welcomed given our delayed flight and late arrival. It might look a little shabby from the outside and when you are walking down the corridors but don't be fooled, the rooms are beautifully furnished with modern fixtures and a large flat screen TV. (I am not sure if all the rooms are furnished the same, but gathering from the pictures we've seen online I think they are).

The buffet breakfast in the morning wasn't very good, whilst it had a large selection the food was mainly geared toward Chinese domestic tourists. The coffee was bad, the orange juice tasted more like cordial/syrup with water and the hot food options were mainly noodles, fried rice etc. with no bacon (a very bad version of Spam was on offer) and limited amount of pastries/bread options.

The hotel is 20 mins walk from Tunxi Ancient Street and a short drive to the bus station. Very good value for the price.

This hotel is a nice surprise from most Chinese-run hotels. It is clean, superbly maintained, and has excellent service. The room is nicely furnished with a comfortable soft bed, high quality furniture, spotlessly clean and refreshingly free of cigarette smoke odor. The towels in the bathroom are exceptionally soft and absorbent. Nit picks: the quality of shampoo and bath foam left something to be desired. The room also didn't have a lock box for valuables and the TV didn't have any English channels.

Breakfast on the first of our two mornings was very good, with a wide selection of mostly Chinese breakfast items but an egg station was available as was fresh bread and rolls. On the second morning a large tour group came through which made for impossible congestion and the staff struggled to keep the serving dishes refilled.

The health center featured a bare-bones fitness room with some lonely-looking equipment, and was not open until 2 PM. It also has men's and women's spa facilities with hot tub, sauna, and massage. The cleanliness of the facilities was suspect and the services, while reasonably priced, were not up to par with the rest of the hotel's high standards.

Overall, this hotel is a much nicer choice than the hotels on the mountain; the tradeoff is that it is quite some distance from the cable car but a much more comfortable place to stay after a long day of hiking.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river have a nice view

Sited beside the river, the Huangshan International hotel is an upmarket (supposedly the best in Tunxi, or Huangshan city) hotel that lives up to the billing. It's modern and new. Most people stop by Huangshan city en route to/from Huangshan mountain, and as a stopover, the hotel provides a good level of comfort.

Bed was soft and comfortable, aircond worked well and could be adjusted, room was clean, well carpeted and had a good view of the interior garden, which was quite lush. Only odd note was that we couldn't figure out how to use the TV remote (all in Chinese), and the buttons weren't where you expected to find them.

The bathroom was luxurious, covered in marble, clean and came with all the amenities.

The hotel is a little removed from town and the bright lights, but on the other hand, it's a 20-minute walk from Tunxi Ancient Street, arguably the most interesting part of the city, and it's next to the river, which provides a nice scene.

Breakfast is a very Chinese affair - typically large crowds of Chinese tourists stay at the hotel, and there's a beguiling array of Chinese food - porridge, fried and steamed titbits, hot soybean, steamed corn, pink ham, etc.

Lobby was bright and functional, decorated with paintings of - what else? - Mt Huangshan. Overall, I'd recommend the place to stay at as a stopover.

My wife, 10-year-old daughter and I stayed in this hotel for one night during a three-week vacation in China this month. We had hiked Huang Shan Mountain and visited dynasty-era villages in the area, and this hotel was our last stay in the area before moving on to Beijing. It was a strong hotel, easily one of the top two or three of the nine we stayed at while in the country. It's new and updated, with high-tech features such as escalators that shut off when nobody's on them. We had a standard double room, with two beds that were fine for us, but likely not big enough for taller people. The room was clean, well air-conditoned, and well-appointed, with a small siting area. We were put into a smoking room, but we didn't detect any recent smoking in the room. Subtractions from five-star quality included no minibar in the room, and small details, such as a rusty bottle opener and a moldy rubber mat in the shower. The hotel offers hardwired Internet in the rooms, and free, ultrafast, highly reliable Wifi in the comfortable lobby area. If you don't want to pay bar prices for your Tsing Taos, you can buy them out of the hotel's refrigerated cases in the lobby for 25 yuan (6,4 to the dollar), a bargain compared to most other hotels we stayed at in the country. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate, and was strong. The hotel is a 10-minute, relatively safe walk to Tun Xi's vibrant Ancient district, offering shopping, restaurants, and amenities like cheap foot massages (100 yuan for 45 minutes, not including tip.). The hotel also has a game and billiard room, gym, beauty parlor, and massages, but we didn't use those services. Great hotel for people coming off of Huang Shan (Yellow) Mountain and wanting greater comfort than the inns on top of the mountain offer.
