We wanted through our China trip to experience China. Not flashy hotels or glass and multi story we found just what we wanted in this hotel in the old area of Tunxi the hotel is only 6 rooms very unique in the furnishings. Very happy with our choice as it was walking distance to all you needed to see in the old town. Hard to find but well worth the experience. Wonderful staff which I think were all family members

Room Tip: all rooms are good but be aware walls a very thin

If you want to experience life in ancient home then this is the place to stay. The furnishings are "antique" and home is old. The included breakfast is very good. The location is excellent as we got to explore in the evening the ancient streets of Huangshan village style. In the morning before most shops open, we visited an old apothecary shop with it's enclosed peaceful garden to look at. Near the entrance to the alleyway to our hotel is an antique store that we almost miss. Wish we had more time to explore here. Also if you see something in these streets and thinking of purchasing, get it, you won't see it anywhere else. One last tip, there is a wonderful restaurant that the locals patronize. It is at the end near the mcDonald and gateway arch. So easy to order, just point and choose what you want. Very tasty and inexpensive. Our local guide recommended it.

This place is a hidden gem filled with character. It is well locate and certainly an enjoyable place to stay. You will enjoy stepping off the laneway into the courtyard of this hidden gem. It has a wonderful sense of authenticity about it.

Despite being a seasoned China traveller who understands some written and spoken Chinese I had some difficulties finding it. Situated in Lee Hong Xiang (Lane) - a lane less than 1 meter wide in most places. It has 2 entry points. The more common entry to the lane is between houses/shops numbers 121 and 125 along Old Street, a pedestrian Street. Directional signages are poor. In Mandarin the hotel is called "Hui Sir". Try asking around but most shopkeepers won't know it.

The other entrance is from Er Ma Lu (Second Horse Road) near a Bank. maybe a local cab driver would know to take you there.
The Hotel is situated about midway from both ends, in a lane with dingy walls but clean and no litter.
The Hotel is quaint, clean and furnished with old furniture, I would think, expensive antiques. Surprisingly there were no unpleasant smells. The beds are comfortable despite the looks.
Good hot breakfast, with rich creamy soya bean milk, is available at 125 Old Street just outside the lane.

Good base to explore TunXi and the Old Street.

Room Tip: Rooms on the upper floors makes you feel more secure, buy colder in winter.

We only stayed one night, and rushed off to the mountains the next day. Would have liked to stay longer. The location is fantastic, close to the ancient city. The rooms are well laid out, I had a beautiful 4 post bed. The breakfast was lovely. Had a charming B&B feel.
