I mean this is not a 5 star hotel, but the you just can't get such great service any where. Basically, other than the stay in the Fuli, Mr. Zhang arranged everything else for us in Huangshan. it's a really pleasant trip.

This was one of the best places i have stayed in my travel history. Rooms are great for the price you are paying. Owner is so helpful Mr. Zhang - [--] You can contact him if you need any info . He can speak english which makes it very easy for people like me. He goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. Me and my frnds being vegetarians they cooked special meal for us on request. It was like being at home away from home. They drove us to the near by sight seeing places at very nominal price. You can call the owner and he will come and pick u up from the bus station and even drop you back. I would recommend this place to stay to couples or familes and will love to go back and stay if i visit huangshan again

Room Tip: Dont think twice before booking this place. Just do it. its awesome for the price you are paying.

Fuli Mansion is located at the entrance of Feicui Gu, a very pretty gorge with crystal clear (and drinkable) water fed from Huangshan itself. This is just a 10min drive from the tangkou bus stop and the owner is most willing to come pick you up (at no extra charge).

Location-wise, I find it ideal and much better than staying in Tangkou itself since there is nothing much to do in Tangkou town itself. Furthermore, you'd be quite hard pressed for time to check into any hotel/B&B and still go up Mount Huangshan in a single day.

After arriving at Tangkou (we took the 1st bus from Hangzhou), we spent the rest of the day rafting and wandering about Feicui Gu (located a stone's throw away from Fuli mansion and also where "Crouching tiger, hidden dragon" was filmed) where we were entitled to 10% discount (applicable only to guests staying in Feicui valley). We then climbed Huangshan the next day.

The owner was also very kind to explain the route up Huangshan to us and personalized the route for us according to fitness level. He also provided walking sticks for use without charge. He also allowed us to do our laundry (providing soap, washing machine, etc) for free! There is also a mahjong room (with tiles) to wile away the evening.

As mentioned by another guest, the food is delicious and very reasonably priced. We had chicken soup on the 2nd night (you need to tell the owner in advance if you want this as they need several hours to boil it) and it was fantastic! As the portion was huge, we were unable to finish it. Even though we had to leave the next day by 615am to catch the bus to Shanghai, the wife woke up extra early to prepare our leftover chicken soup with noodles for our breakfast the next day. Again, the owner did not charge us for breakfast as he said the soup was our leftovers and he didn't want to charge us for noodles. So nice!

The room is clean and the bed is comfortable even though the walls are a little thin - we could hear the TV from another room at night. There are also a couple of bugs but nothing that one can't deal with. You may wish to bring your own towels as the ones provided are face towel sized, but will do the job if you are not fussy.

A great place to stay but not for the very fussy or squeamish. An ideal location, especially if you intend to visit Feicui Gu and/or want to go rafting before climbing Huangshan.

The hostel is owned and operated by a Chinese family (husband and wife plus his extended family). There are two ways to get there:
1. Phone them in advance (the guy speaks good English) and tell them of your bus arrival time, and he will come and pick you up in his car.
2. When you arrive in Tangkou, ask a local to let you use his/her phone to call the hostel. He will then ask you where you are and will come to pick you up.

The hostel is very clean, and has everything a traveler through China needs: clean beds, clean toilets, hot showers, decent internet (wi-fi), washing machine, place to hang wet cloths, good restaurant, some beer and VERY GOOD prices. The pickles in the restaurant are very good - we insisted that they put them in almost every dish we served.

The husband speaks very good English, almost at native level. The rest of the staff speaks very basic English, but it's so nice to communicate to them. They gave us the impression that they will stop at nothing to understand us - dictionaries, Google translate, sign language! We had very bad weather in Huangshan and instead of 2 nights, we decided to stay only 1 night. At 2pm (past the checkout time) we told them we want to leave. Without any questions, they instantly refunded our second night, and helped us rebook bus and train tickets. The wife even stayed with us 1 hour in the rain, waiting the bus, so that she can tell the bus driver where to drop us off. She even negotiated for us (without us asking for), so that we can get "Chinese prices" from the bus driver.

Two words to sum it up: backpacker's paradise.

What I would describe as a friendly family owned and operated Chinese Bed and Breakfast. But they go above and beyond the typical B&B's you'd find in the US. Amenities might be a little rough but you are out in the boonies. There is a washing machine. And they serve beer! The owners will provide transportation to everything you want to see in the area for a reasonable fee. You are walking distance from the gorgeous Valentines Valley. Internet is fast. The food is delicious. This place is full of charm if you love traveling in China and staying at small out of the way spots. If you can't handle anything but larger hotels (and I have stayed at many that are no where near as good as this) then you are better off staying in a larger town. But doing this, you could possibly lose an hour or two for travel time getting to the scenic sites. This is a convenient value! We plan to return someday!
