“A Treasure Trove of History & Culture”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

The Colchagua Museum is one of the largest private museums in South America and it deserves its tag. From evolution to history to culture and every topic imaginable, the museum features over 20 rooms of exhibits. Walking through the museum is like walking through time. Everyone on my tour group, even the skeptics enjoyed themselves.

I can easily see how one might spend half a day here. We spent two hours here and found we had to rush through certain rooms. Rent an English audio guide for 3,000 pesos as everything in the museum is in Spanish.

“A unique, interesting private collection...”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

If in town it is worth a 1-2 hours stop for something different to see and do. The range of interests is broad from mummies to steam engines to a display of the recent Chilian miners rescue. Your Spanish needs to be OK or hire a private guide to walk you through the collection

I was extremely surprised to find such a well kept and interesting museum. The variety of history available and pure size of the place was amazing. It is definitely worth a trip between vineyards.

“We spent the entire day here, amazing place.”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

For some reason a number of museums in Santiago were closed or unavailable when we were there, this one made up for it. There is an amazing collection of Pre Colombian pottery, Jewelry, an exhibit on the 33 miners, the colonial period, cow boys of chile, Nazi memorabilia! Almost anything you could think of. Trains, farm equipment, the cars have moved to another museum.. The entry fee is good for 24 hours so either go one afternoon and return to finish the next morning, or go in the morning and take a break for lunch and return. I have never seen anything like this in a private collection.

“Excellent museum and great for families”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

We went to the museum on the recommendation of friends and from review from Tripvisor. We had a great time and they had great exhibits. We are visiting family on spring break but it was good to take kids for educational purposes.
My only negative is the section with Jewelry from the Andes needed more background description and historic info. I did research years ago on the sympolism of the Mapuche jewelry so was disappointed with such a large collection that there wasn't a lot of info.
