“Beautiful and friendly”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

My brother recommended us this hotel the moment he knew we were visiting Santa Cruz. I had been at the Plaza Santa Cruz hotel on a previous visit and I had liked it a lot, so I had planned on going there again. It was a good thing we decided to book the Vendimia. We felt so welcome from the moment we set foot there!!!! We were greeted by Mauricio, the owner who was super nice. Everybody was so friendly, smiling all the time, you felt as if you had arrived at a friend's house.
They had booked a wine tour and transportation to and from a vineyard plus lunch at the premises, according to Chilean law you can not drink and drive and we were doing the wine tasting by all means.
They also recommended a nice restaurant and Carla the owner's wife drove us there and gave us a number to call a taxi that usually works for them. Everything worked out nicely.
Breakfast was very good and we enjoyed the company of other travellers ( you could also have it in your bedroom)
The hotel is located downtown and is convenient to most places since Santa Cruz is a small town. The decoration is beautiful! It is filled with antiques! I sometimes feel antiques create a cold atmosphere, but in this case it is quite the opposite!!! it is nice and warm.
When we were leaving they took a picture of our group and sent it to our mails. A nice touch.
Many travellers were foreigners and they said they had felt most welcomed, that reminded me of a famous Chilean song"ya veras como quieren en Chile al amigo cuando es forastero" and I felt so good!!!!

The moment I entered the lobby of Hotel Vendimia, I felt as if I had walked into a Chilean parlor circa late 1800's. The rooms and lobby are filled with antiques. A special treat was playing the antique piano and speaking with the owner's son and piano teacher about the state of music education in Chile.

You can have the option of breakfast being served in the privacy of your room. However, sharing stories with other travelers at the communal table was very enjoyable. The breakfast was varied and good.

Owners Don Mauricio y Doña Carla and staff provided exceptionally warm and helpful hospitality. They had arranged for us to tour Viu Manent Winery (highly recommended: carriage ride, wine tour, wine tasting, optional excellent lunch) as well as organized the transportation to and from the vineyard. For dinner, Doña Carla recommended an excellent Italian Restaurant outside of town.

Hotel Vendimia's location is convenient and easy to find ... off the main road, only a 3 block walk to the Plaza and the Colchagua Museum.

Staying at Hotel Vendimia in the Santa Cruz in the Colchagua wine valley was a delight!

We were first only going to stay one night but found the place so nice and the staff, and in particular a young lady Nadia, so helpful we ended up staying 3 nights. Nadia spoke and understood English very well which is helpful for non Spanish speaking travelers like us. It is also unusual that the hotel would recommend and book tours for us and place it on our hotel bill without charging extra. We were able to do a number of day trips from Santa Cruz knowing we had a nice place to spend the night only a short drive away. The breakfasts were very high quality as one could tell they spent considerable time with the preparation. You can also select the time you want to be served with breakfast and they can also serve you wine, soft drinks or a very good Pisco sour. We found the hotel to be in a safe location as we walked back from restaurants 3 nights in the dark and felt very safe. Hotel Vendimia was our favorite hotel of 16 nights in Chile. We highly recommend this small hotel.

My husband and I completely enjoyed our visit to Hotel Vendimia. I will begin by agreeing with other travelers that this place is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. We were greeting by the owner Mauricio and then Nadia. The staff were so warm, welcoming and helpful. The home is nicely decorated with antiques and the bedrooms were clean, comfortable yet cozy. Breakfast was delicious, your every need attended to. Nadia helped us book a wine tour and suggested a nice place for us to walk to and enjoy dinner. We would highly recommend this beautiful haven to anyone visiting Santa Cruz. It felt like home away from home!

We enjoyed our time staying at Hotel Vendimia, was a wonderful time in Santa Cruz. The hotel was very good and the service was the best of the all hotels we have ever been. Thanks Nedia and Pablo for helping us organize our tours at the wineries. We appreciate all the conveniences that you have in the rooms, the bed was big enough for us and the shower was tall enough. Fine breakfast. Everything was great.

My wife and I recently stayed here for four nights. One of the main reasons we picked this place is due to it being "wheelchair friendly" according to TripAdvisor & other websites. If you have a temporary or permanent handicap, this place is not for you!

It may be an interesting boutique hotel, with generally nice staff and a good breakfast, however it is very difficult to navigate on crutches, nevermind in a wheelchair. Most showers are inside antique emaille bathtubs, which you simply can't enter with a freshly broken leg. I was recommended to take a shower in the outside women's bathroom next to the pool, as it only had a small step. Apparently the men's shower was being used for storage. What's frustrating in all of this is that I'd emailed the hotel ahead of time to inform them of my condition and asked them to let me know if this poses an issue. The day after our arrival we'd asked if we could cut our visit short by a day (3 days instead of 4), so that I can find a hotel closer to the airport that can better accommodate my needs. It sounded like the owner was open to making an exception, but only if the travel website would not charge them commission on the cancelled night. Once they received the okay, he went back on his word and we were told we had to stay for the full period. His argument was that he'd delisted the room and thus wouldn't be able to get other guests in. Funnily 5 of 8 rooms were still available online when he made that comment.

Overall our stay was very disappointing due to the misleading information about being "handicapped accessible". Having a grip next to the toilet doesn't make you handicapped accessible. Their staff is second to none though, as Juan Pablo and Nadia were very happy to make lunch/dinner reservations and wine tastings, always greeted us with a smile, and were understanding and helpful at every turn.

If you need handicap friendly facilities you should go elsewhere.

We definitely enjoyed our stay at Hotel Vendimia. It is filled with antiques and decorated in period style, but the furniture is all quite comfortable, and the patio area (with contemporary furniture) was very relaxing. Our breakfasts were ample and well prepared. The hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from the center of town and it is an easy drive to area vineyards and restaurants. More importantly, the staff was very friendly and helpful – not only in arranging visits to local vineyards, but also in providing ice to my wife on a regular basis to help her manage some lower back pain. We are pleased to recommend the Vendimia for anyone visiting Santa Cruz.
