There are some great Tours to do around San Pedro de Atacama. Who to go with was the big question for us. We looked at deals being offered at agents in Santiago with the big companies offering big discounts. We thankfully did not go with them, as there are bigger discounts to be had in San Pedro de Atacama itself. Having read the reviews on TA, we decided to go with Lithium Aventura who did us a package deal with discounts. (there were cheaper ones available, but went with Lithium to be safe).

We did the Valle De La Luna sunset trip, Salar de Tara, Geyser del Tatio and Laguna Cejar in the area, and lastly the Ununi Salt Flats 4 Day / 3 night excusion into Bolivia all with Lithium. We were really excited about the Bolivia Trip, and being high altitude for most of the duration, wanted to get in some aclimitaisation on our trips arouns Atacama.

All these trips were excellent, with good fun guides that were organised, would have all been 5*. But they were a mixed bag. See seperate reviews for each. But in summary, Valle De La Luna was spectacular, but needed more time. A 3pm pick up and it was all rush rush rush. Martha our guide was continually rushing us around. Really needed picking up an hour or two earlier. Wish I had hired a bike and spent the day up there.

Worst was Geyser del Tatio, another must see attraction. We were scheduled to get picked up between 4:30 and 5:30 AM on the day of this tour. We duly got out on the street outside our hotel at 4:25 as we did not want to be late. It was cold standing around…. Several other people were waiting outside other hotels in our street. They were mostly picked up by 5am. The last were picked up at 5:10. We were eventually picked up at 5:40, crammed onto a full bus on this popular trip. We were not happy. It was the same guide that took us to Valle de la Luna, Martha. We also had to stop to pick up the food for our breakfast on the way. Lack of organisation evident.

The driver drove fast to get up to the Geiser of Tatio for sunrise, the reason we were up so early. Despite the speed, we were about the last group to arrive there, but in the nick of time for sunrise. Again, everything was rush rush rush. There was a small walk of about 15 minutes round some other geysers above the swimming area (worth doing a bit of exploring) and of course the sitting in the hot spring. We were given 25 minutes to do both….. We raced round the walk, then jumped into our swimmers and waded in for 5 minutes before having to get out again. Was the dip worth it? Probably not.

It took us some time to get over annoyance of the late pick up from the hotel. Getting up in the middle of the night to stand in the cold outside our hotel for one and a quarter hours was not our idea of fun. I would much preferred meeting at a central location for a pick up rather than waiting for a bus to visit 20 hotels in the small town of San Pedro de Atacama. Could have stayed in bed another hour and still got there earlier. This was concerning for our Bolivia Trip....

That was the bad, now the good - for the tour to Salar de Tara we had a guide called Alex I think his name was, very laid back and informative. This was a nice relaxing tour.

The last trip before the Bolivia trip was to Laguna Cejar, one of the perhaps less spectacular trips, although booked through Lithium Tours, we were consolidated with another group organised by Viva Atacama. The minibus was good and full for the trip to the area, only about 30 miles I would guess. Our hosts were Tony and Jonny, full of energy and enthusiasm. Gave good information and were funny. We were given adequate time at each of the stops and they made a mean cocktail to finish things off as the sun went down at Lagoon Tebenquinche. The guides made this trip.

The Trip to Uyuni Salt Flats was a major highlight, and can thank Lithium for a great tour. In my mind, the scenery on this tour knocked the spots off the ones around San Pedro de Atacama. Carlos our guide was very relaxed driving us over the deserts in his Toyota Land Cruiser. Not the most comfy mode of transport especially when its your turn in the back seats. Gave us plenty of time at each stop. Could not speak English but others in our group translated for us. I cannot recommend this trip enough. A real highlight not to be missed if you have the time.

So in summary, Lithium was a mixed bag for us. Got to see what we wanted to see, and with good enthusiastic guides and on time pick ups, would have been great. My conclusion, a safe bet. But may be worth looking at other reviews for Viva Atacama. I would steer clear of the big operators like Turis Tours as they had massive busses with loads of people. Looked very organised, but with an instant crowd.

We had an amazing tour from San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) to Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia)! We were with 6 people in a 4x4 Lexus, driven by Roger. Really nice guy who loves what he does! Takes good care of his people and his car! :) Even got a real nice surprise from him that i won’t spoil now. We saw beautiful things underway, had nice lunches and dinners and made new friends during this trip! Would definitely recommend this if your in the area.

Would highly recommend this trip to everyone, it’s been a highlight of our whole South America trip!! We had an amazing guide called Rodger who made our experience the best it could be. He was the most cheerful, funny, knowledgable guide ever, and also took the most amazing photos and videos for us at the salt flats! The sunrise at the salt flats was the most spectacular thing I’ve ever seen.

Every single stop was incredible, the landscape is so different and amazing everywhere. Great value for money considering how much is included. The food was great (and I’m quite fussy!) and everything was well organised.

Note: it gets very cold, especially on the first day/night so wear all your layers! You get enough thick blankets at the accommodation to stay nice and warm in bed though.

We booked an airport Transfer to Calama but the bus never showed up. So we had to take a private transport for 50.000 $ to get our plane.
We sent them a mail for an explanation but received an answer.

We did our tour to salar de uyuni , vale de la luna , lagunas perdidas , geyser, termas puritanos and tour astronomico with lithium. First of all the welcoming from the staff in the agency was very nice. Eva was very helpful and explained all the tours and prices clearly and with datailes. During the tours all guides were very good. They explained all the information we needed to know about the places and were also available to take pictures and answer questions. Specially during our way to uyuni our guide, Roger , was fantastic. He was very careful in the road and took us to fantastic places. The food was very nice and he was careful enough to make sure my friends, who are vegetarians, had their vegetarian meals. The places we stayed during our way to uyuni ( it takes 2 days to go) were very clean and organized and we had all our meals included. Once we arrived in uyuni Roger took us to see the sunset and we were amaized. The following day we spent the morning in the salar, saw the sun rise and took many funny pictures and vídeos. We had a really nice time and didn t have anything to worry. The service from lithium was very satisfactory. It was money very well spent.
