“Inconsiderate staff, dirty bathrooms and kitchen”
Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a four bed dorm which was fine although a bit cramped, beds were ok but the bathrooms were filthy and ran out of toilet paper all the time. I told the reception but they could not care less. The bathroom's trash cans were too small so they overflowed with dirty toilet paper every afternoon until the next morning. The hot water was supposedly from 8 to 22.00 but in reality you were lucky if you could get any for more tham 30 seconds.
The kitchen was extremely basic, the empty lighter of the cooker was never replaced, there might have been 3 forks and 2 spoons for everyone to use and the sink was often overflowing with leftover food and dirty dishes.
One cannot expect too much of a hostel in the desert but the staff could at least try to be friendly and helpful, which was not the case unfortunately.

Rooms are a bit cramped and a little dark but the place has a good vibe to it with a nice common area and decent wi-fi. Staff are friendly and helpful. It's a little further from the main square than other places but not far at all.

San Pedro is pricey so this is a good budget option

We arrived at this hostel by accident after the one we booked sold our room, so this is the sister hostel. We initially weren’t too bothered at first as it was much cheaper and suited our budget better. However it was pretty basic and the shower block wasn’t great. Only 2 of the 3 showers worked and 1 of the 2 toilets was constantly blocked, even though they were cleaned daily. There weren’t any towels, toilet paper or soap. Its pretty grim when you have to provide your own toilet paper. Talk about tight fisted – we’d paid $40 a night for it and oh yes I forgot, no breakfast either. We had some really bad storms in the 3 days we were there and the hostel courtyard was flooded. They did nothing to eleviate it or use sand bags. The roof leaked making our bed wet but they didn’t seem interested in improving anything in light of the storms. There was supposed to be someone on reception all day til midnight but there wasn’t, so guests could practically do what they wanted and did. Its also a party hostel and as its so small, with the rooms surrounding the courtyard, its really noisy. The day we left we were asked to pay again as they didn’t have a record of it. Luckily that got resolved. Not a friendly place and I’d say in 5 months of travelling, probably the worst hostel I’ve stayed in. Avoid it if you can.

There isnt much chance of escaping the heat here but for what you are paying its still a good option. Kitched in small and not much utensils but its enough to get a meal cooked. Rooms have mud walls which is cool. They need to spend a bit more effort fixing showers and toilets instad of just putting out of order signs up. Overall a decent place for the price.

Room Tip: if you want a private book in advance

this place is like living in the great outdoors, you sleep in mud huts and have glass bottle windows. Its a cool place with wifi and a small kitchen. Not much spaces for relaxing out of the heat but this is still a good budget option

We were there in early January 2012. The place was messy, no-frills, and I suspected (or rather hoped) that the property was still unfinished. The rooms were dark, common space was too small and not quite available. Lady's common bathroom had two showers with hot water and two toilets, the latter should need more frequent cleaning. No amenity.

We ended up staying here because the hostel we originally booked were overbooked and they sent us to this one. Even this hostel looked crude and some roof repair work was ongoing, all rooms looked taken, suggesting that hostels are in short supply in this town.

We later found out that we could stay in a far better accommodation at the same rate outside San Pedro town. If you have a car, you may wish to consider staying outside the town.

The hostel is fairly basic but fine for budget travellors. There's a small but reasonably equipped kitchen and good quality beds.

You aren't guranteed to get hot water but in this climate that isn't a big issue. You'll be wanting a cold shower to cool down at some point during the day.

The wifi isn't particularly fast but it's adequate for skype, Facebook and so on and is stable. However, the signal doesn't reach all the way into one of the dorm rooms so you might have to use it in the courtyard.

San Pedro is a very small town so location wise it doesn't mater where you stay.
