We stayed with a group of friends for 4 nights. The hotel is nice, but the amount of dirt in San Pedro makes it hard to keep it clean. Location could not be better - just a few steps from the Main Street and always the first stop for tours.
Minibar at the room is a plus.
Main complain is that the wifi does not work in the rooms, but its ok by the pool area. No room service also.
Overall we had a good experience. The price and location makes it worth! If you are on an adventure - not romantic - experience mood, highly recommend it.

Independent appartments in "atacameños" style with amazing termal equilibrium - fresh during hot days, warm during cold nights. Built in adobe.
Simple and clean. Very simple.
Excelent location. Historical Center. Near eveything but off main street.

We had a room near the end of the walkway, which was nice and quiet. Large room with 1x double bed and 2x singles..... so loads of room. The bathroom was a little bit small and not totally up to date but adequate. It got very hot at night in the room, only a small window, one fan not quite enough to keep it comfortable. Still it was a nice little adobe hotel a short walk to the main drag and San Pedro is a lovely place. Wished we could have stayed longer. Free wi-fi to purchase a further book on the kindle, small pool which we didn't use- nice little roof terrace which we did use and the lunch menu was totally awesome and delicious. Had a few Pisco sours...very nice. All in all a comfortable little hotel, quirky and clean. We liked it.

At first glance, Hotel Kimal is charming and well designed. HOWEVER:
The room is "cozy"-(as in small) - and the lighting is so poor that it was difficult to do anything after dark.
The first night the one window was jammed and the room was a furnace. Plugging in the fan required moving the refrigerator
The shower was, at best, luke warm.
On the first very hot afternoon, the swimming pool looked appealing and I wondered why no one was in. I quickly discovered that the water is so icy cold that it is unswimmable.
The service was lackadaisical. Unlike our experience every other place in Chile, they were unhelpful with my husband who is in a wheel chair. (The short ramp is quite steep and slippery and I asked for help which they were reluctant to give).
The restaurant's food was overly complicated.
The music from the restaurant could be heard throughout the hotel (since the only way to cool the room down was to open the window and door.

We spent four nights at the hotel. It is built in Adobe and all rooms have their own entrance on the ground floor. The first impression is of warmth and comfort. We had a good sized room, probably better than we paid for but the shower room was pretty pokey. There was a telephone and Wi-Fi but no TV (who needs it?). The beds were comfortable and the rooms quite clean: the lighting was hopeless.

The service was a bit odd. Almost everywhere you stay these days, the breakfast is a buffet with coffee (or tea) almost the only thing being served. At Kimal, it was a bit like a hostel. You had to collect your knife, fork, spoon and napkin to set the table yourself. If it was dirty, you had to clean it yourself! If you wanted eggs, there was no charge but you had to go to the kitchen and ask for them. On two days, there was a grumpy girl there who did nothing but drink tea and chat to the kitchen staff; I assume she worked there but it was not noticable!

Most of the staff were very helpful and obliging.

I think there was a manageress there but I only saw her once, she should get out a bit more and see what is happening. It could be a very good hotel.

I stayed here Feb 6/9. Loved the adobe style and layout. Yes, the whole town is dusty and so some is likely to get into the rooms but is always kept clean. I wanted something different and this hotel certainly is. The food was very good and always well presented and all the staff I encountered were very helpful and friendly. On day 2 of my stay, San Pedro experienced unusually heavy rain late afternoon and it leaked through ceiling. Bed was only thing to get damaged and when this was reported an army of people came and helped me relocate to another room. If you want to get away from it all but still be so close to the centre of the town then this is the place for you. I loved it.

We stayed at the Hotel Kimal for three nights during a tour of Chile in January. The rooms in the hotel are clean and adequate with a rustic style. There was always hot water in the bathroom.
The big plus factor for this hotel is it's position in the centre of the town with some very nice restaurants closeby. Because of the central position there was some noise during the night which slightly affected our travelling companions as they had a room that backed on to the street.
As our trip was in January it was very hot during the night and although there are fans in the rooms it was still difficult to sleep.
