“Good night's sleep”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Well located just out of the busy part of the village, we were given a lovely room with its own terrace, table & chairs and access to the communal kitchen. the owner gave us a decent rate of $84 a night for the family (it was out of season) for which we were very grateful, having just been almost stung by the nearby Hotel Terrantai (who quoted $150 a night and then tried to demand $230 on arrival!), it was a perfect place to rest and recuperate after the rigours of the Bolivian salt flats, would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Unless you are on a real budget, get one of the little self contained rooms which are almost chalets

I cannot express how much of an amazing place this is to stay. My partner and I stayed there recently and unfortunately while sand boarding he had an accident which meant we had to extend our stay in San Pedro. The hotel were very welcoming and helpful. I cannot thank the staff enough, especially the wonderful Maria. She is an absolute star! Thank you xxxx

Room Tip: Eat the empanadas next door!

Hostel puritama is a mixed bag. I stayed there as part of a tour recently and unfortunately was there when the floods and hailstorm hit.

On arrival the area is spacious and clean. Some rooms have a fan, some have a tv, some have private bathrooms and some have none at all. Request on of the cabins w private bathroom. They are raised well above the ground. Wifi is solid in the courtyard.

It's an easy location, right near everything you need.

Butttt in the 2 nights we were there there were power outages in the whole city, and the generators were poor. Staff friendly but no safe. For a night it's perfectly fine if you are passing through.

On the edge of town and at the end of the main street, it is quiet and peaceful. The adobe style building is just right for the "frontier" feel of the town. Some of the rooms have shared bathrooms and lavatories in a separate block but the room I was in had a bathroom just across the hall. Water supplies were a bit erratic but you have to remember that it is in a desert.
There is a very pleasant, shaded garden with tables and chairs. However, when we arrived we were firmly told that drinking was forbidden and the kitchen could only be used to make hot drinks. It came as a bit of a surprise the first night to see people sat around drinking. The second night the kitchen was packed with people eating full meals.
It is a lovely place to stay for a couple of nights but spoilt by draconian rules and double standards.

Arrived in San Pedro without a reservation, on Christmas day. A lot was booked or very expensive.
This is a nice ho(s)tel, at the bottom end of the main strip.
We had a room for two, twin beds with a private bathroom. It's nothign super fancy, but its very clean and comfortable, and very good rates!
They also have rooms with shared facilities, and a kitchen and courtyard.

Room Tip: We had room 5!

I arrived at San Pedro de Atacama only to find that there was a problem with the reservation I had made at another hotel.
Puritama had a room available for two nights and I ended there. The room was nice, clean and rustic and had a private bathroom, which was a must for me. It also had a heater and a TV. I couldn't get the TV to work but didn't care to watch TV anyway, so I didn't ask anyone to fix it.

I think the hotel has hostel type and hotel type rooms. If you want a private bathroom, ask for one. The room was about $100 (47,000 pesos) per night.

Also, I was told in advance that they didn't take credit cards, so I was prepared to pay cash.

The one thing I didn't like so much was the fact that you could only get Wi-Fi in the lobby and not in the room.

Room Tip: If you want a private bathroom, ask for a room that has one.

The hotel is on the main street of San Pedro, close to the main restaurants and shops. However, its infrastructure is not so good. I stayed in a small and dark room in the patio and I also used the shared bathrooms in the other side of the patio. Having to go to the bathroom outside at night during Winter is really annoying! Moreover, every time I tried to take a shower during the 3 days I stayed there, the water was cold and I had to complain in the reception. It took sometime until they solved the problem in every occasion. There was no breakfast but we were allowed to use the kitchen.
