We were originally booked in to a hotel slightly out of town, by our agent. However due to the unexpected and exceptional flooding that had taken place, our original hotel remained closed. We were placed in a sweet wood and adobe bungalow in this hotel and we were very happy to be there. Our room and bed was clean and comfortable. The housekeepers appeared to work very hard and were most friendly, in spite of limited English. We loved the location of the hotel, just off the main street it was very convenient. The sister hotel across the street was where we went for breakfast and although I have not been in one of their bungalows, I was happy with where we were I thought it looked nicer from outside. We did try an evening meal here but did not find it as good as other restaurants in the area. A great stay in the hotel though, thank you.

Poblado Kimal's "cabins" are lovely. My original search was for a place with heat and wifi and in town. We did have dinner in the dining room at Kimal - the sister hotel across the road. It was a good option when arriving tired and pressed for time. The lights in the room could be improved upon for reading and the mattresses in our room were sagging on our twin beds so it may be time for a flip or a change.

Friendly staff, located right down town. This is very convenient for restaurants , shopping, booking tours at the various tourist offices around. Has a nice pool ( too cold though, as the nights are cold)

We spent five nights at this property during the floods of early February. To say the least, this was a shock for everyone, with major flooding in the streets, all the attractions being closed, etc. Having said that, the hotel staff did as much as possible to make us comfortable. Initially, this meant getting us into our casitas as quickly as possible since there was little else to be done. The casitas themselves were quite comfortable and clean (our only challenge was the rolling door to the bathroom tended to stick), with little front porches that allowed us to sit outside when it wasn't raining. Because the street in front of the hotel was so flooded, making it dangerous to walk along and isolating it from the hotel's restaurant, the staff brought in gravel and made a bit of a sidewalk and "bridge" to allow us to get around.

The excursions director was quick to meet with us initially, and on an ongoing basis, to keep us apprised of the status of the roads, attractions, etc. He was very willing to discuss alternatives for the deposit money we had paid (e.g., refund [with cancellation fee], credit towards the spa). We chose the spa and, while we couldn't use the pool or jacuzzi (they were both flooded with muddy water), the massages were excellent and relaxing. In the afternoon of the third day, some of the attractions were beginning to open, and the excursions director was quick to get tours organized and moving. Thus, in our remaining time, we were able to see the three attractions we most wanted to see.

A word about the restaurant. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was ample and tasty, with a good variety on the buffet table and eggs to order. Having choices of 3-4 different fresh squeezed juices was also good. We ended up having dinner there each night, initially because it was too difficult to negotiate the flooded streets, but later because we liked the food. Each night had a unique 3-course tasting menu, with appetizer, main, and dessert. I typically had the variety of soups they offered for my appetizer and they were all excellent -- including the presentation with the broth being poured table side over the rest of the contents. All of the mains were also excellent. Presentation/plating was always artfully done. The desserts were also excellent. The wine list was generous and reasonably priced. If I had any complaint, it was that service tended to be a bit slow.

All in all, we had a great time at the hotel. It is in a central location, accommodations were comfortable, and service was responsive. We would stay here again.

If you stay at Hotel Kimal, make sure to ask for Alexis the tour guide. The guy is the best. He took us to some amazing, hidden places that were beautiful and didn't have any/many other tourists. Plus, he knew the right time to go to the more popular locations when there wouldn't be a ton of other tourists. Our trip was way better than if we tried to plan ourselves, and the night hike was amazing. Plus, the guy is hilarious and has incredible stories. We did 2.5 days touring with him and I'd recommend to anyone going to Atacama to do the same.
