“simple, clean, friendly”
Reviewed May 28, 2011

We stayed here for three nights ($38000CLP per night) and thought it was fine.

The room was simple but clean, the staff were friendly and the general premises were good. We had no problems with hot water supply and the heater in our room, although small, kicked out enough heat to keep us warm during the chilly nights

We last stayed here in 2006, and it is just as good in 2011 even though I think that it has grown quite a bit. We had two double rooms: they were both a reasonable size and were very clean. The beds were comfortable and everything in the small bathrooms worked well: decent hot showers, At night the rooms were quiet even though we were close to the entrance. The staff were friendly, and the Peruvian reception lady very helpful as well. There was free wifi available too. Breakfast was fine (but not as good as Tahka Takha for example).. nothing fancy but enough .
Overall, this is a good place to stay that was a lot cheaper than others we looked at in April 2011.

This hostal was recommended by some brazilian forums and guides and it was definetly a good choice. We stayed there for about 7 nights and we had absolutely no problem. The staff was very helpful and always always very sympathetic. It's close to everything in SPA. It`s not a budget option, but the price is average in SPA.

We stayed our first night in San Pedro at another hotel that we found overpriced and not that comfortable. After walking around and checking out a bunch of other places, we moved to Katarpe the next morning and really enjoyed our stay there. As recommended in other reviews, we got a room at the back, which was really quiet. The covered patio area in the front of the hotel was great for relaxing in the afternoon, and the woman who worked the front office was really friendly and helpful. This place is also just right off the main street, so easy to walk to dinner but far enough away from the action to be quiet.

We paid CLP30,000 (~US$60) per night for a double, excluding breakfast (which we think is CLP5,000 extra per day). A bunch of places in San Pedro don't have heat or wifi, so we were very pleased that Katarpe had both at a similar price to many other hotels that offered neither.

After being let down by 2 other hostels who hiked their rates on our arrival vs what they promised on email, we found Katarpe Hostel. Very friendly lady, very quiet room, clean, nice feel about the place and WORKING internet strong connection everywhere. This was a real bonus.

Considering how expensive San Pedro is, this Hostel was good value, a little lower than others we had tried but had extra benefit of quietness and internet. 1 minute walk to main Caracoles street. Second time we had visited San Pedro on our trip and we enjoyed it more this time.

Found cheaper places to eat with wonderful food as well.

ATM is always a pain here, doesnt open until 10am and only works sporadically, but at least you know.

Recomended.

the hostel is OK, very central, clean but a bit noisy..ask for a room at the end, and not at the beginning, because you will wake up every morning at 4 a.m by people who goes out to the Gysers....

Stayed here for one night and reserved by calling the hotel directly. It is a walled complex with a gate in front and they let us park the rental car in the courtyard. They let us check out late since we went to see the geysers and weren't back till 1pm. Overall they were accomodating. We didn't get to see what kind of breakfast was available since we left for the geysers at 4am. It was a relaxed and friendly place and the room was comfortable and clean.
