“Good hotel but bad service”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

The structure of the hotel is good, rooms are bright, beds are warm (with electric warming mattress pads) and the shower is great. But staff was not sympathetic or helpful. The man I believe is the owner of the place posed several rules like - "you can't eat on your room and you can't also use the kitchen". My friends that were in another room had several problems with their bathroom and staff didn't seem willing to solve them (even after several complaints). The hotel didn't seem to be full, but changing rooms was not an option for them. Staying in this hotel would have been a much better experience if staff had treated us well.

The previous reviews on here are based on what this hotel used to be like. I am pleased to say that things are improving and when I stayed there for 2 nights in January 2012 the hotel was busy being renovated. There was a lot of work going on but it didn't spoil our stay here and these are absolute necessary renovations which I am sure would have been completed by now. This hotel has lots of incredible features from its colonial past and this work will showcase these features.

Our room was downstairs and the room was very comfortable with nice linen and blankets and lots of channels on tv. They could have done with some cupboards for those of us who like to unpack and air our clothes and the bathroom was adequate.

The staff we so lovely and when we were there it was a Sunday and the laundry was closed but for a small fee the manager let us use the washing facilities and dry them on the roof terrace which was very decent; in fact all the staff were so helpful.

There is a roof terrace with lovely views of the surrounding area and it was a great place to view sunsets or enjoy a few post sunset drinks with fellow travellers,

The hotel is about 20 minutes from the city centre which is a bit of a walk but it is fine if you like a stroll and there are lots of sights along the way.

A pleasant clean and comfortable little hotel with great staff and great potential. I would definitely go back and am intrigued to see it when it has been completed.

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 nights whilst travelling around South America. Rooms were very basic with no facilities beyond a bed and bathroom. The room felt damp the whole time we were there, and the bathroom had mould along the ceiling and walls. The whole place could do with a complete renovation as the decor was noticeably old, and fittings in the bathroom were loose and worn out.
At the end of our stay they refused to honour the price we had been quoted when we booked over the internet, and we ended up paying double the original price, making the room the worst value for money I have experienced so far. None of the staff spoke any English and so I feel they took advantage of our lack of Spanish, and continued to argue with us about the price. They treated us with little or no respect. Furthermore, the staff were constantly harassing us to buy tours from them, even when checking out.
